Park + Power buttons at the same time, what is it?

    My son played and push Park + Power at the the same time, and what happened:

    Still can drive it, parked button alone worked, stick also worked OK.
    Power button deactivated, I have radio still playing, pushing it no any effect, can't remove key
    No lights on dashboard (Speed, etc..)

    I was scary first, then after coming home, made same thing back and got everything working again!!
    Anybody know what is the theory behind this behavior?
    Is it dangerous

    It sounds to me like your combination meter is failing and was a coincidental thing. There is a extended warranty that was issued for this problem if indeed the combo meter is what caused the problem. Common thing that happens with combo meter failure is no speedometer, hard to shut down, can't open back hatch and a couple other things. I haven't seen anyone report a condition like yours due to pushing park button and power button at the same time.

    To get the Prius to shut down when the combo meter is NOT working, push the power button and hold it until the Prius shuts down. Supposed to take three seconds to shut down. Some have reported it takes longer than that.

    It could also be that you might be having problems with the 12 volt being weak, but I suspect the main thing is the combination meter.

    just as a quick test, disconnect the 12v for a minute to reset the computers.
