I don't know how many of you are familiar with the "Jeep wave" but most Jeep Wrangler owners will give a casual, hand on the wheel wave to other Jeeps they see on the road, as a sort of acknowledgement of their shared membership in the Jeep owners' club. Beyond that, I think it signifies taking pride in owning a unique vehicle that has a passionate and dedicated community of owners. I think as Prius drivers, we meet similar criteria. I can only think of one instance (in about 5 months of ownership) that I can remember getting recognition from a fellow Prius driver on the road, so I've recently stepped it up and made an effort to recognize other Priuses when we drive by each other by flashing the "hang loose" sign. Let's start a revolution among Prius owners and solidify the bond that exists between us all!

I thought the Jeep wave was to confirm that it's just cost them another small fortune to fix.

When I drove VW Microbuses, there was a convention to wave to each other.

Hahaha it's true, Jeep people will do anything to keep their boxes rolling.

Seriously though people, let's wave to our fellow Prius drivers! We're in a very exclusive club.

i think the problem with prius is the difficulty seeing through the greenhouse window to see if the other party is acknowledging.

I'm not sure where you're from but Prius is probably #1 or #2 selling car in California. There's so many of them I don't even feel the exclusivity you're talking about.

Where I live the majority of Prius owners are over 70. I want them to concentrate on driving.

    • Where I live, about the only thing I would wave at Jeep drivers, one of the moderators would delete.
    • Also, as noted, where I live, if I were to wave at Prius drivers, I would have one sore hand, since so many are on the road.
    • Finally, when I used to live in a rural area, we all waved at each other -- the people, not based on some elitist idea of who drove a special car.

OK, it's decided, no prius waving. I agree, call me anti-social, but i'm too busy driving above the limit and around the slow drivers (and trying not to get caught) to wave at other people.

Actually, we should adopt, "No Waving Waving." If the other driver does not wave, that is, in and of itself, "the Prius Wave," acknowledging the superiority of the platform. I tried this today on my way home from work, and guess what? Nearly everyone on the road, even non-Prius drivers, gave me the signal. Woot!

I never realized how many Prius's were on the road till I bought one. Has anyone seen the new Chevy Malibu Hybrid commercial? They are touting 47mpg in the city! My main reason for buying a Prius instead of other hybrids was for the reliability of Toyota cars. Yeah, the interior for the base model is really cheap and road noise is pretty high, but after reading all the threads in here on what we can do to mod up our Prius cars, I look forward to the upgrades I intend to do on my own. I have just done the basics right now. Got all my windows tinted, center caps for the stock rims, chrome trim for the stock rims, Blue bulbs for the reverse lights and blue/red bulbs for my turn indicator lights for the "cherry red" color. I am saving up for the Classio Seat covers.
