I'm having trouble with Entune (surprise!).

A few months ago, my normal assortment of apps was reduced to just 4: Map, Dest. Search, Fuel Prices and Traffic. (see image). All the others had been displaying and working fine in the car up to that point, but suddenly Weather, Stocks, Sports, Pandora and all the other Entune apps (except the 4 above) were gone.

Internet still connects fine, as I can scan for Fuel Prices nearby. I've tried deleting and restoring my Entune account in the car. Nothing. Creating a new Entune account online. Nothing.

I have the latest Entune update for the car (which worked fine between last fall when I installed it and around March). I've reinstalled it just to see, and no difference.

I'm using the latest Entune update for my iPhone 6 (May 2016). I can log into Entune from my phone and from a browser. I've connected the car to the phone with iphone Entune app open and in front. With and without the app icons as the front page. NOTHING!

I've not been able to find this problem anywhere on google or on PriusChat, and am at my wit's end. Any ideas?

Update: After posting my problem on the Entune website, I was contacted by phone by Toyota representatives.

Their response: "We've never seen that happen. It must be something wrong with the Multimedia System, because the Apps are part of the unit, not downloaded from the iphone when connected." (This is true, as far as it goes). "The apps should show up even if you're not logged on (but not do anything, of course, until you're connected online to Entune).

"We suggest you contact your local dealer."

I know at least some of the apps were downloaded through a flash drive, because they were added 6 months ago when I successfully applied the Entune update. I'm afraid that, when it comes to electronics, the dealer's solution might be that they want to replace my multimedia unit (I'm out of warranty). And I'm afraid they'll know even less about how to troubleshoot and fix the problem than the phone customer service did.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I tried to recreate your issue but didn't succeed. What I can tell you that while booting up I only have access to the 4 apps and my screen looked like yours. After 5 minutes or so, the remaining apps showed up. So my question is how long did you wait?

I haven't seen my lost apps since February. When they were visible, I do remember that little lag (never seemed as long as 5 minutes) between the first four and all the rest, so I keep holding out hope that the missing ones will someday reappear, but so far it doesn't matter how long I drive, the missing apps are AWOL.

I got the impression the connected phone may play a part in which apps show up in the car. Have you rebooted and or tried updating the entune app on your phone?

I'm stumped. BTW, I don't have Entune installed in my phone as it is garbage. The apps showed up awhile after Start up despite this. I even checked the Bluetooth settings and internet is not allowed on my phone. So far your apps are indeed AWOL.

Download the entune update from here:
    Redirect To headUnits

Put the swdl.iso file directly on a FAT32 USB drive like it says to do, plug it in your car and do the update. If that doesn't fix it do the following:

Go to Settings -> General. Scroll down and choose volume. Chose navigation prompt volume. On that screen press the Top Right below the arrow, then bottom right, then top right alternating for a total of 6 presses. This brings up the hidden diagnostic menu. Then go to general then click reset Extension Box. Wait for it to come back up, go back in the secret menu, click General then click Delete all personal data and reset nav calibration.

Once it comes back up all the way turn the vehicle all the way off and then back on and see if you have your apps back. If not, try to update off the USB one more time. Also, I've seen a few times where the apps wouldn't appear until I waited, switched to the audio screen, and then switch back to the apps screen.

I've rebooted my phone, removed the Entune app and reinstalled it (the latest revision is 1.18.465.48 I believe, from this month). You gave me an idea, though. Also, FWIW, my Entune app connected fine in my wife's car (Prius v) and all the Entune apps displayed on her Multimedia display.

Thanks for your suggestions, though. I'm ready and willing to listen to anyone's ideas, as I'm running out!

Thanks for your response and for the info about the hidden diagnostics. I really appreciate getting access to that diagnostic menu. I followed your instructions over my lunch hour, but it still failed to bring up the missing apps. BUT, there are many options in the diagnostics screen and I hope I can get some more ideas by walking my way through the menus.

I'll post back to the thread with any results...in the meantime, color me still stuck but hopeful.

    John,

Do you have tethering on your cell phone? If so, apart from reflashing the update and the diagnostics menu, the only thing I can think of is to unpair your phone's bluetooth from the car completely, and then from the phone, repair the bluetooth and turn tethering on on your phone.

Do all of this with the entune app closed on your phone and the phone unplugged. Then go to the bluetooth settings on the car and where you see your phone click it. You should see a button that says "connect for internet". Click the button next to that and check the box to enable "Dun/Pan" connection, and click the button to enter your entune username and password. Back out and click the "connect for internet" button and see if you can successfully connect, and if so do the apps appear?(you might have to turn the car on and off and then do connect for internet) Also I guess try to unplug the 12v battery from the trunk for an hour.

Apart from that, the dealer will likely have to replace the extension box, and it is pricey. I can tell you from experience that there are absolutely no serious touch screen/entune diagnostics at most dealerships.
