Looking to buy a 2006 Prius with Option Package #3 in Silver Pine Mica, Classic Silver Metallic, or Magnetic Grey. I'm in San Francisco Bay Area. So far, I've contacted three Toyota dealers to put on wait list. Any advice from anyone on what else I could do?

Also, I'm not sure if I want to get an Extended Warranty or Pre-Paid Maintenance Plan. Do I have to decide on the day I buy the car?

    Any input would be appreciated...

Check dealers in some of the smaller towns in your area. Also, go to Toyota's web site and do a dealer search. It will pull up all the dealers in your zip code and within about 20 miles, plus show their inventories of Priuses.

The extended warranty can be bought before 36,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first.

I got offered a white #3 prius as early as late January 2006, but I picked up my car in April because I held out to get the color I wanted (classic silver). So.. yeah, I think the wait time depends on how picky you are...

go on craigslist... you can get a car with no waiting list up in Napa and at times in SF....

BTW... i was able to get a car in the south bay with zero wait.... it seems that a car can become a jump ball if someone can't be reached on a wait list.

I got mine the same day I registered with carsdirect.com. The dealer was 50 miles away. The color wasn't what I wanted, but when you're driving it, you can't see the color anyway. Actually I got my 3rd choice color, with the options I wanted. Be flexible, and try the online agencies, if you're in a hurry.

Go to craigslist and search "prius" under Cars and Trucks. Dealers post there when they have cancellations. They go fast. You will need to check frequently and be ready to head to a dealer when one is available. Lastly, know that they double-deal, so you're probably not the only one who will be racing to the dealer for to snag the car. Good luck
