I figured I'll save myself the grief and ask everyone here, do I have a chance at #8 at MSRP? Or should I plan on using some of my miles and a fun road trip home?

    Hello there Dan,

I'm up in McKinney and should be getting my prius in about a week and a 1/2. Actually, my salesman has been calling me about every other day to confirm that my car will be in Houston on the 26 and then available for pickup on the 30-31.......he said definitely by the end of the month. :) So I do have my fingers crossed. From what I experienced, I would say no. I had a great experience at Toyota of Richardson, where it took me about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to pick everything out and place my order. You will probably read about a lot of folks here saying that you don't order your prius but are put on a waiting list.....I am assuming that this is correct for a lot of dealerships but as far as I know Toyota of R. does pretty well and have a good monthly inventory arrive every few weeks. I was pretty picky on what I got....only a #2 package, which is not that popular, but I got it for about $100 less than MSRP. The only reason I got that was I set up the appointment through the internet and you could print off a coupon for $100 of any new car. I was very pleased with the whole thing. I wasn't berated by the salesman to get me into all sort of extras....just asked me to check things on a list that I was interested in and he told me about them and then I placed the order. definitely give them a shot. By the way I placed the order on 4/24/06 so I have been waiting almost a month now but a little over a month if I get the car when promised.

    Good Luck!!!!

Go to Fowler Toyota in Dallas, and talk with Hershell. phone number 214.324.0411. He not only got me MSRP but threw in a couple of things as well. He pretty much handled the deal over the phone and then stayed true to his word when i got there. I researched every dealer in Dallas and Plano, Richardson etc. and he was the lowest price and the most straightforward. Put everything in writing just as promised the minute I walked in the door. Was in and out in like half an hour.

If you go to him, mention my name, Vogelzang, as I get a $50 referral fee I think. And I know it doesn't come out of your packet. Plus, I haven't received my Prius yet, (still WELL within the time he promised me though, and I added leather interior and some things that would make it take a bit longer.)

Overall I can't say anything but good things about him and the dealership so far.

    Thanks guys, that helps.

So what's up with the leather? Can you get it without going all the way to 8?

You bet and he got it for me for wholesale...$990 instead of something like $1250 Toyota resale.

That's one reason I liked doing business with him, he didn't pressure me to get ANYTHING I didn't want.
In fact after I'd already agreed to the sale price of the #5, $25,565 including a couple of extras and AFTER I got there, I asked how much extra the leather upgrade would cost...(I didn't tell him that I knew the Toyota retail price of $1250, because I used this as kind of a test.)

When he came back he said that his manager OK-ed the wholesale price of $990. THEN I felt really relaxed about using them...I mean he'd already made the sale, you know? So I upgraded to the leather and he's been really reliable ever since.

I haven't yet received the car, but he's been all about being straight with me...which is one reason I wanted you to use my name, (that along with the $50 check I could use for mudflaps or something fun here on PC! :D

    Hey Dan

I live in Dallas and have been the happy owner of my 2005 Prius for over a year now. I am happy to pass along my experience, but things change, so you need to keep that in mind. When I bought my car, I shopped or called most of the Toyota dealers in the North Texas area and my experience varied from bad to worse:) While the pricing and sales tactics varied considerably, one thing that didn't seem to change was that the dealerships had no cars, didn't know when they were going to get cars, were happy to take a deposit and let you wait for "something" to come in, etc. It was absurd. I understand that supplies are better now, but the pricing tactics and "port added options" for these dealerships made for a very poor experience.

I did find one dealership, Durant Toyota in Weatherford, where they were willing to sell me a car at MSRP with no port added options, but they didn't know when to expect the car. I was impressed with them after dealing with the Dallas area dealers, though. I finally decided to seek out the car and buy it out of state, which I did in short order with no problems and got exactly what I wanted. It worked out well for me.

I have spoken to other Dallas area Prius owners and they have had better luck than I had with the Dallas area dealers. I bought my Prius from a Colorado dealer, although I could have made the same deal in Virginia. I have since pointed out one of the Virginia dealers who posts here in Priuschat to a friend who also gave up on the local dealers and bought his car in Virginia and couldn't have been more pleased with the transaction.

    Good luck:)

Good deal guys ... will I have any problems finding one to take for a test drive? I've seen other threads on this site about rentals, though I can't seem to figure out if I can find one in DFW.

    Thanks
    Dan

Metroplex Toyota - did everything via email. Great Experience ($200 under MSRP). Wait was about 8 weeks (I would only take Silver #3 with floor mats). I would just call the dealers around your house to see if they have 1 to test drive. My guess is you should be able to find one. Just don't waste a lot of time talking to the sales people (when I was looking, most DFW dealers were still trying to get over MSRP)
