WOW. I was afraid that was the answer. I must have been confused by another car I was looking at. You're right, how hard would that be to implement. One extra beep, that ties to which the turn signal indicator (if its on or off). Come on Toyota... software (firmware) UPDATE!! With a technologically advanced car like this, I wonder if they ever do firmware updates? This would be one device I would welcome an update! Here are some pics from the first day home... with the threatening rain clouds yikes! I want to do more beauty shots at some scenic locations with a my real camera (not a camera phone). But the weather in my area has not been cooperating. We've been having cooler rain threatening weather all week. So there you have it. Again these photos don't do the metal flakes in the paint any justice. I think the paint job on all the Gen 4's looks much better in person. Enjoy the eye candy!
Too bad that the average speed limit in EU, and "advised" speed in Germany is exactly 81mph and going slower means blocking traffic, because not only people going slower, are going much slower, but those who go faster, want to - so they are going maybe 85/90 (and they are allowed to in Germany!) and when you try to keep the speed limit, there is always somebody on the right lane, and I am not talking trucks, that always goes slower than 80mph. So you need to continuously change lanes. Having 2-3 lane max highways, with no change to over take on the right like in the USA, that makes it difficult to drive really smoothly and constant speed on a EU highway... Plus most of the them are mostly highly trafficked most of the time...unless you drive at night.
So... it beeps when: You're in bloody reverse (reverse beep) You're within 3 metres of an object (ICS) When someone is approaching as you back out (RCTA) When you drift past the lane marker (LDA) But it doesn't beep with BSM?? LDA, RCTA and BSM are when I expect beeps because they're immediate, particularly changing to the right. Hmm, this explains why the driver in the new RX350 changed lanes into me even though I saw that the BSM was flashing in her right mirror. DRCC to the rescue! (well, to reduce stress somewhat) lol... umm... willkommen in Deutschland?
Yep. All those bloody beeps but no beep love from BSM. Wonder when the "hacks" come out for this vehicle. You know, the little reprogramming here and there from the factory setup. So far only the Carista can make minor changes. LG-H901 ?
I don't want to share my numbers and make anyone feel bad. The dealer is a personal friend and I promised not to post it. Merged........... It's got to be possible. Have it beep IF the turn indicator is ON. One option in the menu, to not use an alert sound. Makes perfect sense. I know where I got the idea the car could do this... Nissan is currently running TV commercials (in the States), with 3 red Nissan cars driving down the road and interweaving (changing lanes)... and beep beep beep beep... as they show a close-up of the BSM indicator flashing in the side mirror. We need to submit this to Toyota. It wouldn't be hard to do in a firmware update.
Wife's previous ride Mazda CX5 flashed and beeped when turn signal was activated when BSM was in warning mode. I already mentioned this in a survey Toyota sent us a few days ago. It was headed something like , now you've had the new car for 30 days tell us what you think etc.. LG-H901 ?
Thanks for the heads up on the survey. I knew one would eventually be coming... now I know when. I will certainly mention it as well. Every new owner should as well.
Much easier than the last attempts on other vehicles. .You bought the cats meow.Like beer, luke cool and not cold. Pleasant to drink with now nastiness at cellar temperature.
yep - and this happens not only in Germany - also in Italy where the speed limit is 81mph. There are still those in the middle lane (or rarely right lane, considered by most the "losers lane", used mostly by trucks, that go at 70 or less. In Italy and Germany and I'd say in the EU, it is required to keep right on highways if the rightmost lane is free and no overtaking is necessary. Less and less people are doing that and like to stay in the "middle" or even in the left lane, well below the limit, or in Germany, at the "advised" speed limit of 81mph, when the right lane is empty and there is no speed limit (essentially provoking traffic jams really quickly as more and more drivers driving at 80+ - as it is their right to do so - ge
I downloaded the 800 page owners manual and am going through it. There is also a Quick Start Guide you could download as well. I'm doing my homework before I buy my first Hybrid.
Spoken like somebody who is about to become a new Prius owner! Oh yeah!! I did the same thing... you're in the process... and on track to becoming an owner!
