The system lights just stay on. Can't shift into gear and the car won't start. This happened for the third time today. (It's been a little over a week since the last time this happened.) Have to power off and try again and again before it will complete the system check and start. Anyone have an idea of what's going on? My 2010 Gen3 IV has 79,000 miles so it's getting close to a maintenance visit. Just wondering what they might say about this.

    TIA

Having the diagnostic codes read will help you determine the cause of your problems.

Have you replaced your 12V battery yet? That's a good place to start to check if it is still good.

The Prius 12 volt battery normally only lasts 4 or 5 years.

Your problems are indicative of a bad battery.

+1 Check your 12 volt battery. The symptoms you describe is indicating the 12 volt is on it's last legs.

Toyota is selling a 84 month battery now. Check with your local dealer and DIY. Don't pay them to put it in, it is very easy to do. Be aware the battery is NOT cheap.

    Best of luck to you.
