I was driving home from Omaha yesterday, and had passed Sioux City,IA headed north on I29 to Sioux Falls, where I live. In South Dakota the interstate speed limit is 75. It was about 7:45 PM and I had the cruise on 69mph. There was a stiff 15-20 mph headwind and my mileage was barely registering 42mpg on the MFD. I was driving faster than I normally would in that condition, but I had a date to pick up my wife at the airport in an hour and i still had 75 miles to go. I was minding my own business when a brand new silver Prius blew by me, in the left lane at about 75-80mph, still with dealer logo plates on that indicated it had been purchased recently from my same dealer.

Now Prius's in this neck of the woods are quite rare. Having had mine for 7 weeks and only seeing another one on the road once, and a 2nd one in a parking lot once, plus having spent 4 days in Omaha and not seeing even one on the road, seeing a Prius is still special to me.

I decided I should check this out. The Silver Prius continued to stay in the left lane cruising at about 80. There were no other cars visible on the interstate, just the 2 of us. I sped up in the right lane and pulled up even with the Silver bullet. I peered over to the other car and saw a 40 something women, dark hair, and thick rimmed glasses reminiscent of a school marm. I stayed even with her for about 20 seconds, peering into the window from the side. She didn't glance over at me. Boldly, I decided to give a little honk, with the intentions of thumbs up, if she looked over to acknowledge me. Still no reaction, nada, zilch, bubkiss. She was in her own world!

I must admit I'm often in my own little world while out there driving around in my Prius...perhaps she was just getting used to driving her brand new car and paying a lot of attention to the road (she was going 80mph, after all). :) Don't take it personally...a lot of us Prius drivers are so engrossed in our cars and mpgs and mfd screens that we fail to pay attention to the fellow Prius driver right next to us.

Silver....06.....Yea, my type of car! Just heard my Silver will be here by the end of the month. IT is the prettiest color. Just a tad more metal flake in it than the Highlander Silver. I'm in middle Pa so you won't see me unless I come home to Iowa. Have fun and congrats on your new Prius.

Yea don't feel bad. I always try to check out other Prius driver's, and give a little wave or sometimes a quick honk, but they always seem to be so focused on the road, and rarely even care that I too am saving the planet hehe. Aren't they just cute lil things?
Yesterday I was driving through a commercial area, and there was a large storefront that was solid windows, and I just love that, gives me time to see how "she" looks going down the road hehehe

I will admit, I am not a slow Prius driver, especially when going out of town. And I often wonder as I drive by the big gas guzzler's, how they feel as a "weak little POS hybrid" passes them by, especially up hill!

If a Prius pulled up next to me on the higway and gave a little honk, I'd enthusiastically give a wave and/or a thumbs-up. I wish there was at least one other person up here who was as fanatic about the Prius as I am.

Larry David on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' years ago had this on his HBO show. He drives a Prius on the show and waved at another Prius driver. But the person driving the car didn't wave back. His manager Jeff commented that he doesn't wave to other SUV owners.

I'm an avid cyclist and some cyclists wave back and some don't.

If you are ever in the Kansas City Missouri area and see a Classic Silver, honk. I promise to wave back!

Until this moment I didn't feel worthy to add my comments to such a distinguished forum. You see I am a Prius owner wanna-be, albeit, not for long. Today my dealer informed me I should have my Prius by the end of the week. Of course it will be Silver as requested.

If I am ever in South Dakota I will make it a point to be courteous to all other Prius drivers!

    welcome to the board spayer!

I wonder if the lady was simply in shock that the Prius has so much Pep, I'm still amazed at our broken in Prius' raw torque and smooth acceleration, my wife is always telling me, "Why are you driving so fast?" to which I reply, "Oh, am I!"
