The catch for this great career opportunity is that you'd have to do it for 20 years.

A better question is Would you pick lettuce all day long under a scorching sun for minimum wage? (Keep in mind that lettuce grows close to the ground, so you have to bend over all day long.)

Only if my native country's economic situation left me with no choice, and

I was able to cross a porous border with no fear of punishment or penalty, and

I was going to be granted citizenship of said country with better economic opportunities than my native country, and,

I was going to be able to provide my family and especially children with a much greater probability of having a better life then mine.

Seems how and why 10% of all Mexicans are here.

Seems how and why most people came here originally - although I am most opposed to amensty for illegal aliens and favor a National ID Card and strong border enforcement including building a great big wall and enforcing all current laws regarding employing illegal aliens.

The only question left for American's is how many poor and impoverished we want coming here - I would prefer controlled immigration focusing on people suffering political or religious persecution and those with high-tech skills or other capabilities that will augment and strengthen our economy. And of course, no felons or criminals or those that want to live off the system here and not contribute to it.

Well, that's why shorter people can fare better at these jobs, some races were just made for this sort of thing...

Right. I was about to say who would pay $10 a head to support the wages and profits of a company paying $60 an hour.

There was an article similiar to this in the Wall Street Journal recently. It was concluded it would only add something like $ 0.18 (18 cents) per head of lettuce to pay $ 100,000/yr depending upon if the hiring company paid benefits or if the govenment (fed & state taxpayers) picked them up as they do now. Which means the profit margin on lettuce is obscene. Too bad you can't put it in the tank.

The cost is mostly in the "shipping and handling" and refrigeration to get it to market. Hey maybe once they make hybrid 18 wheelers ......

I'm trying to figure out if this is one of those sick jokes you like to make, a bit of well-intentioned bad taste, or if you are actually a racist. I'm inclined to think the former, but I'm not sure.

I'm the farthest thing from a racist, but most certainly enjoy dark humor that pokes fun of any and all races...

There's quite a lot of times I think Squid is being serious. This was NOT one of those times. Bad taste, sure, but I own Truly Tasteless Jokes v1-7 =)

So what are you saying? Lettuce doesn't come from the supermarket?

I bet you say babies don't come from hospitals either.
