Music through Bluetooth just... stopped working?

    Hi everyone,

Two days ago, I got on my Prius and music didn't start playing through Bluetooth like it usually does. I noticed that the display unit that usually shows the track info and album art was instead not showing any of this info, although all the other components of it were there as seen here:

    JVvQNU0.jpg

If I switched to another input and switched back to Bluetooth, it gets stuck on the "Please wait" loading screen:

    4LMyxEX.jpg

It doesn't transition to a "Bluetooth not detected" or any other message, it just gets stuck there.

I have tried everything I could think of to fix this, including:
    - Turning the sound system off and on
    - Turning my car off and on
    - Re-pairing my phone
    - Deleting the connection on both my sound system and my phone, and pairing again by having the phone search for the sound system
    - Same as above, except I also had the sound system scan for the phone
    - Using different phones (none of them worked)
    - Restarting my phone

My car has the version of the Entune software that was released last summer (I think it's the latest version).

My phone is an iPhone 6s with the latest version of iOS (9.3.1). Nothing was updated between the last time Bluetooth worked and when it stopped working.

Both the sound system and my phone show that they are connected to each other through Bluetooth, and phone calls are still routed via Bluetooth through the sound system/speakers without any issues. Audio from my phone works if I use an AUX cable. FM/AM radio work without issues. My phone connects to other Bluetooth speakers without issues.

My car is a 2014 Prius C 4, everything in it (including sound system and speakers) are the stock ones that came with it when I bought it new from the dealership.

Please, help me out! I've tried Googling this to no avail, and I can't think of any other possible solutions. Should I just take it to the dealership and see what they can do? Is there anything else I can try before taking it?

I believe the issue is the new software and the Iphone. You can try to search in here under "Entune/Iphone Issues"

    Hi Montgomery,

I haven't been able to find anything regarding my issue specifically (most seem to be about getting internet/the Entune app to work), and I haven't done any software updates in a good while, so I'm not certain that that is causing the issue.

If you are still under warranty, take it to the dealership

I just noticed I downloaded the May 10 update (1.18.46) for the iOS version of the Entune app on Wednesday (May 11), when I noticed the problems appearing.

I really don't see how an app update would make music through Bluetooth stop working with any devices, but that is the only related change I see that could explain this.

I'll be taking it to the dealership tomorrow to see if they can fix it, but hey, if you needed yet another reason to avoid Entune here it is.

Edit: Updating iOS to the newest version released today (9.3.2) did not fix it, unfortunately.

Currently at the dealership for my car's scheduled maintenance, they're gonna be looking at the stereo system as well. I'll let you know what they find.

UPDATE: They could not determine the cause or find a solution so a new stereo system has been ordered and will be installed when it arrives (1-2 weeks).

Same as Capeto above. I'm having the same problem. It worked the first 5 days I had the car, then as if the warranty expired the night before the bluetooth screen says "please wait" indefinitely. I am going to the dealership in a few hours and will update when I find out what they say. I already know the answer will be something like "shouldn't have bought a toyota". I love the car, but the factory navigation / media system is garbage. I see android alternatives out there, but wonder if you will lose a lot of functionality in the setup menu over just having an audio system. I've considered buying a seperate bluetooth module and tie it into the aux port, but then you lose the steering wheel controls which I use all the time. Its lose lose and now I'm already bitter about my purchase in a vehicle and if toyota can't make things right then this will be my last toyota vehicle.

Before going to the dealership and paying an hours labor to have them look at it. Do a "soft re-set" on your audio sytem.

First delete your phone from your radio and also delete your car from your phone.
Push and hold the power button. The system will shut down and re-boot.

Note: A soft reset will return your audio system to the way it was when it was new. However, it will also reset EVERYTHING back to default. You'll have to go through the audio system setup again with the voice training, etc. You'll also have to reset the creature comforts you may have dialed in as they too will be returned to factory defaults. By creature comforts I mean: auto door locks, headlight auto shut off etc...

I'll add this sidenote as well. If your using Pandora and this happens, it's probably not you or the car. Rather it's most likely Pandora. My brother and son were talking about this recently. Both are master techs (Brother GM, Son Honda) Apparently Pandora is throwing fits all over the place. Matter of fact, it won't stay connected on my car. Yet everything else does.

The dealership is ordering a new head unit and was under warranty. The guy at the dealer says he has seen this before. I've done the soft reset the it didn't work. I've also hadu 4 different devices with it including an iphone. It doesn't ever read the services on the phone for media but the phone parp works. Also the dealership will not even attempt to reflash the software. It seems like that would be a cheaper fix. Oh well.

It appears my Prius C 2014 model has hit the exact same issue. Only option according to OpenRoad Toyota is a complete head-unit replacement for $1500, my purchased extended warranty doesn't cover it. iPhone charges when plugged into the USB port, but is not recognized. BT phone calls work fine. Issue happened in September, after showing the Nav system to a potential buyer. The only odd thing I did was unplug the USB-Lightning cable, and put it away in the glove box. I've tried everything, including a delete all user data reset, and pulling the fuse. Soft reset by holding power button no longer works on this Entune firmware release 5.2.0. Something tells me it's a software glitch, and it could be related to something electrical on the USB port. Maybe data lines are broken or shorted? It's hard to know without pulling it all apart.

This should be corrected by an out-of-warranty replacement program, because this category of issue falls under class action lawsuit territory. No user fault, occurring just outside of warranty, and seemingly fixable via software update.

I had to pay the $50 to start the insurance claim and then they replace my head unit. It never worked even with the new unit. Previously had work for several days and then now it only says please wait. This is total garbage that are cheap Bluetooth speaker mounted to my dash has more functionality than my cars in car stereo.

Does anyone know how to fix this? BT audio worked great for almost 2 years and then it just stopped. BT phone works, but I get the "please wait" spinner which switching to BT as an audio source. The *only* think I did was to put in a CD a few days ago. I had never used the CD player before that day. I tried holding down the power button to do a "soft reset" but that doesn't seem to do anything. Is there another way to do that?

This may seem strange, but since it nothing else has worked it can't hurt to try it. It worked for me when the Bluetooth in my 2012 C stopped working. It will take some time though. I had already tried all the things mentioned above, short of replacing the head unit as I was out of waranty.

You'll need to check the permissions for every app on your phone for those that have Bluetooth access. The reason you check them all is because some may have requested access that don't really need it. The culprit for me was Netflix. When I turned off it's Bluetooth permission, my problem went away. I know of two other people who solved it the same way. But I also know people for whom denying Netflix access did not fix it.. That's why you check all your apps. If you see any with access that don't require it, turn it off. I don't know how or why this problem occured or why this fixed it. It's one of those weired mysteries. Hope it works for you.

I think you are on to something here. I tried listening to Netflix (BT audio while driving) but it didn't work so could well be an app permission or conflicting setting on the phone (likely safety oriented?).

Reflashing the latest Entune App Suite for the appropriate radio fixed the issue for me.
