My 2008 Prius seems to be comfortable enough. It has cloth seats. When I went to get my newer one I wanted a higher end vehicle. So I choose to have the leather or soft tech (leather version) of seats in my 2010 Prius. I had no idea that they would be so uncomfortable. While test driving I didn't notice since the drive was a very short one. But one I spent more then 15 minutes in both the driver and passenger seats I felt noting but pain in my lower back and butt. I have since purchased seat cushions but they are just not enough to solve this issue. I'm now looking to have the seat cushion replaced with different form material. Had I know this I would not have purchased the car. If I can't fix this issue then I might not be able to keep this car more then a year at best. I thought this might be the car I would keep and then sell my older one but it doesn't appear to be the case.

Has anyone changed the seat cushion and if so did it make a difference. Also what did it cost to replace?

My wife and I just purchased a 2016 Prius V, test drove multiple Prius V's at 3 different dealerships. Didn't notice the seats at first. Drove the new car 1 hour to get home and lower back really does lack lumbar support.

Does your 10 have a lumbar support button?
My 06 didn't I used a small memory foam lumbar cushion, my 11 does, and no extra lumbar support is needed, my 16' also has lumbar support.

Its a 2016 has a lumbar setting but its not enough I also thing the head rest may have something to do with it since it kind of pushes your head forward.

I have not did any modifications to a seat in a Prius. I have a 2014 Avalon Hybrid XLE Touring. The driver's seat was very uncomfortable for me. The seat was too hard. I did a lot of research in the Chicago area, where I live, on upholstery shops. I took my car to a very good shop and they took the seat out and added additional foam to the the bottom of the seat. That solved my problem.

    That's really just too bad.
I've hung around Prius Chat long enough to know that it seems "Seat Comfort" is very individual and subjective, but that there ARE a large number of people that seem to have problems with Prius seats.

And really? It does boil down to either you can fix it, or you can't. And if you can't? It really does sometimes become a ownership ending factor.

If you otherwise like the vehicle, I wish you the best of luck in finding a remedy that you can live with.
Hunt around Prius Chat..and google, people have tried just about everything in regards to seat comfort.

I admittedly fall within the group that doesn't have a problem with my Prius (cloth seats) comfort. So I have no direct answer.

Target sells a $20 memory foam seat add on, that looks really nice, and works quite well.

  8. In mine the lower back is too far back, and the support at the top bends my neck really far forward. It's like it's trying to reshape my spine. I just keep a thick pillow for the small of my back and then it's fine.

$20 is a cheap fix. We just got back from our first 2,000+ mile trip in our Prius and plan to buy something similar to your add-on before the next trip. It wasn't the lack of lumbar support that got us; it was the lack of padding on the bottom. Even if it didn't look great it wouldn't matter to us since we'll be sitting on them, hiding them from view. It might make a difference if our eyes were located on our butts. lol.
