I'll have to test further, but when I cancel the cruise by hitting the break, I canot resume. If I cancel it by pulling the arm, I can then pull up and resume.

I had a Tundra with the same type of cruise, and I don't remember this. If you use the brake, do you have to "Set" the cruise again?

If your speed drops below 25mph you can not resume with the Toyota CC. Otherwise you should be able to resume whether you cancel with the stalk or the brake.

As Evan points out, it depends on how much you slow down. Even if you speed up again, the cruise control will have canceled, and you will need to reset.

I am doing 55, hit the breaks and sow to 50. If I hit resume, nothing.

What, you guys never use the cc much?;) If you "cancel" in an "emergency" (pressing the brake pedal before canceling by pulling up on the lever is considered by the designers an emergency) the cc will loose the setting. Cancel gracefully with the lever and you will be fine, until you slow below about 25 MPH.

Normal operation. BTW, all Toyota CCs I've driven with work this way.

I always cancel with the brake and am able to resume if the speed does not drop below 25 mph.

Sorry to disagree but, with both my 1999 Camry and my 2007 Prius, I can resume the set speed no matter which method I use to "cancel" so long as I don't slow below around 25 mph.

I agree with RedRock; just push up on the stalk and the cruise will resume at the original speed (before you hit the brakes.) I use it constantly in the many summer construction areas in the Kansas City area which has more orange barrels than people.

If that's the case, then there must be two different ccs in the cars. Mine will loose the settings if you brake first. My 1990 4Runner was the same.

For mine, this is "normal operation". There have been at least three people who have posted complaining about this operation.

Speaking of cc it seems that when driving on the highway I can get better mpg without using it. Anyone have similar experience?

I wonder if this could be a wiring issue? If there are wires from the cancel and cruse off controls, could it be that some assembler has at times connected the brake light signal to the wrong cruise signal?

I think mine resumes from braking if you don't drop below 25, but I will test on way home righ now. Wish me luck, I am hoping to maintain my 52 MPG average from last three round trip to and from work for one more trip homw. I figure the more miles I get into the average, the easiser it is to maintain it. If wife drives the car, I most likely have to start over.

If you are a vigilant an knowledgable Prius driver, you can do better MPG than cruise control, partly because you will be putting economy over maintenance of exact speed, whereas the cruise control will do it the other way around. Others, including Hobbit, I think, have noted that CC is relatively crude and does not provide max economy.

Naive drivers and lead footers will probably get better mileage WITH cruise control.

OK, I did check mine on the way home, and it does resume after applying the brakes.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Doc Willie @ Jul 13 2007, 07:39 PM) </div>
Thank you for repeating that twice Dr. Willie. It makes more sense after reading through it two times.

Next week, I will not use the Cruse. Then, maybe I will better my current 52 MPG average.

I tested mine today and I can resume the CC after pressing the brake above 25mph and with the stalk cancel mode as well.

Try hitting the brakes instead of hitting the breaks. It may solve your problem.

I have two Prius cars and the CC behaves differently on each one. One car is a 2009 and I can resume at 25 MPH after coming to a full stop. On the 2006, it will not resume at 25 MPH after coming to a full stop.
