So after another 3 weeks of aggravation, I've gotten nowhere with this. Toyota corporate said the firmware could be updated without the map update. When they contacted Capitol Toyota in San Jose, the dealership people said they already updated the firmware and also that the firmware could not be updated without the map update key. Unbelievable! And even more unbelievable is that the corporate person assigned to my case believed them and did not understand the absurdity of their assertions. He finally admitted he does not understand the issue but there is no one else at Toyota that I can talk to. It's no wonder that the dealership can get away with this kind of nonsense since there is no one to hold them accountable.

I could start over at another dealer but I don't have the stomach for this any longer. I might report the issue to the FTB and review them on Yelp and other places, but I no longer intend to pursue this.

So, if anyone else wants to inquire at their dealer about updating to V6674100, please report what you find out. Thanks for listening to me vent! :(

I just brought my car in to the same dealer for an oil change (another horrible experience, but that's another story) and asked about the nav firmware update just in case something changed. When I picked up the car, the advisor told me no update is available and, when I questioned that based on my last visit, he said that it has been pulled by Toyota.

Since that service dept has gone so far downhill, I really don't believe this but I did not pursue it further. I just figured I would report it here in case there is any truth to the claim. I do not intend to return to the dealer for service since they have become hopelessly incompetent so I will probably get no more info on the matter.

My firmware update was done a year or so before my map update on my non-ATP v '12. Free. Only the map was a cost item and it cost as much as a new Garmin or TomTom with free lifetime updates.

it would probably be cheaper and better to replace the toyota h/u when you buy the car, to one that emulates your phone, than to pay for all the updates during ownership.

I would really like to do this, but I'm having trouble figuring out what features I would lose if I put in a carplay unit in place of my ATP system (eg backup camera, parking assist, etc)

A Toyota dealer near our home did the navigation map update today in our 2012 Prius v Five for $45 before tax. We got the car back after a little more than one hour. I purchased the activation card for the update through a different Toyota dealer near my work place across town for $143.65 after a 15% Costco Auto Program discount bringing the total before-tax outlay to $188.65. It took less than two days for the activation card to arrive after I paid for it - ordered it late Tuesday afternoon and it arrived early Thursday morning.

Ours is the "Premium HDD Navigation with Entune" which is updated with Techstream using a "master USB SST". The activation card part number for the latest (2016) map update is 86271-HDD07-16 which a chart I have says is for model years 2012 - 2014. The part number for "Display Audio with Navigation and Entune" is different.

Our 2012 Prius v came with the 2011 maps. The 2016 map update has significantly changed how the maps look when it goes into split screen mode and we think for the better. It's hard to explain but the streets on the right side of the split screen now look more like real streets and there seems to be more detail on the display. There have been unusually extreme changes to Interstate highway interchanges near where we live since 2011 so it was easy to see that the 2016 map update includes those changes.

My wife has been the main driver of the car which is at only about 31,000 miles - IIRC it's been driven out of town only one time on a 400 mile round trip. My role has been to keep it washed and fueled. We registered her on the Entune website when she purchased the car new but she had never installed the Entune app on any of the phones she's had which have all been iPhones. We did that today and the Entune app on her iPhone 7 sync'ed up perfectly with the in-dash system and transferred the saved destinations we entered as a test. Recent retirement means she'll be driving more and taking out of town trips by herself while I continue to slave away at work.

That is indeed later than mine. The dealer says I have to get the new maps to go to that version. Since it has been improved, maybe I'll bite the bullet and get it upgraded. Thanks!

I just updated mine last night 15 V 5 got the chip the dealer and installed it myself its pretty easy just pop out the old chip install the new one and restart your nav..it takes about 45 minutes to load up the new Nav software, I looked up the partnumber and there are many of these on sale on amazon, ebay etc for not a lot of money, in the future that will probably be the route I go..
