i rely on the back seats to prevent missile launch. toyota didn't give me anything to strap down whatever i may be toting. do i have a clear legal case against them?

It really comes down to where you drive and whether you drive alone or with hub most of the time. And what gives you peace of mind.

If you mostly drive alone but within cell tower range, It is safer to call for help than try to change the tire yourself. Call your hub (or Uber) to pick you up. Yes, replacing the tire will take longer and be more complicated if you don't have a spare in the car. So, to me. the availability of cell phones has changed the equation.

If you drive off the beaten path, far away from help, then having a spare is probably worth it.

I'm in the camp that believes that modern tires rarely go flat suddenly. I've picked up many nails in my time but they have always resulted in slow leaks that I had repaired at a tire store. I've never had a blowout in 40 years. Just lucky?

Mainly because it doesn't really take care of a flat tyre at all. It temporarily blocks the leak, but in most cases will ruin the tyre - and that's only if it's a small leak. I've had 3 flats in my current car (4½ yrs), probably 2 might have been able to be fixed by the kit, the other wouldn't have. My previous car had terminal sidewall damage 600km from a service centre. Would have cost me a fortune to get a flat-top truck to carry my car -fortunately, that car had a full size spare.

bisco (and others), when referring to a donut, do not mean this:

    They're referring to this:

also that Toyota Gunk you use has a good chance of messing up the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Sensor. So one flat, $200-300 to fix it. Not me, take off and get fixed or carry around a spare. That Sensor is pricey from the Dealer. May can get cheaper off Amazon?

Toyota will tow a car that the kit will not fix for the stated warranty period which is??????????????? Research project for me.

Also USAA will do the same thing. Costs me $4 a year per car.

Wow - not here, I'm sure. With our equivalent of USAA (Royal Automobile Club) has towing limits which I don't think go anywhere near that sort of thing.

Yep, gunk is not good but might keep you away from the Road Bandits. Mad Max may not be available.

Could you send us pics of the Corolla Hybrid? Do the seats fold down?

It looks like a normal Corolla Hatch, the back seats fold down, but I didn't actually try that. The boot (you call it a proboscis?) was smaller than the Prius', and overall a smaller car - but interestingly within a couple of kg of each other. Corolla had a proper handbrake rather than the floor foot-handbrake. It had Sat Nav which Prius doesn't have - but I'll just use my current plug-in one, at least I can change it while I'm driving. The base Corolla has a full-size spare tyre, but not the hybrid, which has wider tyres than the base model.

We do have one, bisco. It's the 2016 Scion iM. Made by Toyota. (Non-Hybrid.)

It was on my short-list of cars to consider. But the Gen4 Prius has more room for me. And of course much better gas mileage.
