    Hey there,

My name is Rob. Recently I stumbled upon a 2007 second gen Prius that appeared to be in good shape. Like new actually. 71K miles.

It was originally purchased in Tulsa Oklahoma and driven by its' first owners (in 2008) to St. John's, Newfoundland. It's been serviced exclusively at my local Toyota dealer. There are three outstanding recalls (water pump, steering shaft and accelerator pedal). I've asked my dealer to order the parts.

About me, I am a 48 year-old car guy. I love cars and have owned quite a few. This is, however, my first hybrid.

Other cars in my driveway: a 1999 Mazda Miata, a 2014 Camry, and a 2002 Camry.

In addition to the cars listed above, I had a rust-free winter beater from British Columbia: a high mileage Dodge Caravan. With nearly 300K on the clock, I figured it was time to find something else.

My Prius needed nothing to pass inspection. I got it for $6000 CDN ($4600 USD). A good deal I think. I love it. I'll post up a few pictures later.

Next week my 13 year-old daughter and I are doing "an epic road trip" in it (six provinces and several states). We plan to camp in it. Can't wait

Here's a pic of the interior. The backseat looks like it was never sat in.

PS I removed the plastic wheel rings. The alloys alone look great IMHO.

    Thank you.

Today I've been reading about how you can camp / sleep in a Prius. I can't wait to hit the road in this car. Originally we planned to take the Miata but it doesn't have AC, the seats are black leather and we expect it will be hot. I did a similar trip with my other kids years ago. Wonderful memories but with the Prius, my youngest and I will be creating new memories.

Here's the Miata, for those who are interested. Taken last week out at Cape Spear. Notice the icebergs in the background.

As a car guy, you may miss more traditional gauges.
There are apps for Android devices to be a gauge pack, I use a commercial OBDII reader/programmer called ScanGauge II
It can display any 4 of dozens of values on the OBDII bus.
ScanGauge II ODB Scan Tool + Digital Gauges + Trip Computers - PriusChat Shop

(As an example I display RPMs, Engine coolant Temp in F, Intake air Temp in F, and instant MPGs)

Here is a spreadsheet with more gauges:

Thanks! I may be the first from NL, you never know.

Yes, the previous owners were meticulous. It's hard to believe it's a nine year old car. The carpet - even up front - is like new. It is cleaner (and nicer) than my wife's 2014 Camry.

Yay, another Miata fan. I belong to a car club (Sports Car Tours Newfoundland). We have a drive planned for tomorrow. Here are two pics from our last event, three weeks ago.

It's funny, as a Miata enthusiast, I didn't think I'd enjoy the Prius. I am pleasantly surprised in so many ways.

For a split second, I thought the first pic was from Targa Newfoundland until I read your post.

I think you are. I don't recall another newfie but we do have a couple from the maritimes. (mostly NS)

Being new to this website, where is the best place to post an "epic" road report? My daughter and I just covered 4000 kms and six provinces (we have another 4000 kms to go before we're home).

    Welcome to PriusChat!
Coincidentally , I also have a Miata as second car, an old 1996 model, but it keeps the shifting and driving a rear-wheel drive car skills active, as well as being a whale of a lot of fun. Prius equally challenging to drive effectively, but goal for me is efficiency in the Prius, performance in the Mazda.
Re camping in Prius: there are several good Prius camping threads here, and the Gen 3 hatchback rear seats fold nice and flat in the rear to create a good sleeping platform. (I am 6'2" and needed an extra 17"x48" platform between the front edge of the rear seat backs and the front seats to have enough room.) We took ours from Washington DC to Alaska and back, but we also had a dome tent attached to the rear as a living/dining room.
Hope your trip goes well, and good luck with both cars!

Good question. Most people post road trip reports in the fuel economy section (since that's usually the focus).

We do have this but I think it's used more for organising events.

I use the Habitent and camp in my Prius for bike races. I am 6'4" but i can sleep comfortably in it albeit not completely stretched out. I also use the Converdant Toyota Prius Plug-out Generator Inverter to run my CPAP machine. Welcome to the forum. I look forward to your posts especially when you get the itch to start modding your Prius. I think everyone here is inspired by the modification threads.

    Thanks. It's actually a 2007.

Put 7500 kms on it in 17 days (on a road trip with my daughter). We camped in it in Quebec.
