Hey all, so I have a 2010 Prius III I bought used the other day and all of a sudden I'm getting intermittent shaking / rough starting sometimes after the car sits for a while. However, after that happens it seems to run and drive just fine. At first it didn't throw any codes or anything but now the light is on and my scanner is saying the following codes:

    P0300
    P0702
    P0501

It's weird becasue the car honestly drives and runs fine. Maybe a little down on power but generally is OK and getting close to or normal mileage. Has anyone ever had any of these thrown and similar issues? I was thinking about taking it into the dealer but not sure what to do first. Rather avoid the extra cost if I can but I'm definitely worried somethings up =/

If you put those codes into google, that usually would provide you with what the codes point to. ex. P0300 prius

hmm I'll try that, makes sense then I know which ones are definitely worth worrying about since they seem kinda all over the place right now

200k unfortunately, it has extensive maintenance records so I don't think anything important was missed. I'm kinda half thinking the 2nd and 3rd codes are old ones maybe. They recently did work on the first code issue and replaced all 4 plugs and 1 of the ignition coils (not all 4 for some reason..). Looks like it was taken in and replaced the #1 coil, then taken in again when issue came back up and moved the new one from #1 to #3 based on codes. My thought was replace all of them and hope that fixes it.

I'll know in a few days though if the second and third codes come back. They seem much more serious, but then again maybe not since its driving fine, I do not know =/

At 200k miles and it's not driving great...with known recurring problems. I hope you got a reallllly good deal on this car

it actually drives just fine, I'm just stressing over the codes to make sure I'm not missing anything important. I did get a pretty good deal though!

First, you should clear those codes, because they could have popped up years ago when something didn't get reconnected during maintenance, and it could have been fixed. I had codes appear once after disconnecting the 12v battery. I had to reconnect the battery to clear things up and it was fine after that.

The 2010 Prius will experience a hard startup if you start the car and then turn it off before the engine has warmed up. This was addressed in either a recall or a TSB. But it's easily avoided if you don't switch the engine off while its warming up from a cold start.
