    OK, now I have a better understanding of your questions. No, you do not need to use a tank full of petrol as the yardstick, you can fill up anytime, be it 1/4 tank, 1/3 tank, it doesn't matter. My point is that you need to fill to the top of tank as reference, some use the click off as reference and others top off. Either method you use, as long as it is consistent, the FC measurement will not vary a lot.

    By partial refuel, I mean not filled up completely. Let's say I have 1/4 tank left but I only filled to 1/2 tank.

    For me, since all my trips are short and I like to find out how accurate or inaccurate is the "guess gauge", I did push the envelope a bit. No, I don't suggest you or anyone else do this.

    Why do I need a reference?
    I can not see the difference between putting 20 L in a 1/4 full tank or a 1/2 full tank. The usage calculations would be the same. I can see that the first tankful would need to go to the top to have a starting point but after that it should not matter.
    If you are trying to do a comparison between tankfulls then the tank would need to be filled to the top. But why compare tank fulls?
    Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be obstreperous, just practical.

    For me, I like to experiment different techniques to see their effects on FC. By comparing tankfuls, I will then be able to verify whether the techniques work or not.

    Secondly, if my FC suddendly changes a lot for no reason, then I know there must be something wrong with my car.

    Lastly, the total FC rate will eventually hit a plateau after certain distance (>60,000 km?), any big drop in FC does not affect the total FC much. Without measuring tankfuls, the above 2 points will be difficult to monitor.

    Anyway, this is what I hope the spreadsheet can be useful to me in this way. Everyone have their own objectives in maintaining spreadsheets, though not neccessary same as mine.

    Oops, I'm not expecting you or anyone to follow my objectives. I'm only sharing what I've learnt from others. Just do it your own way.

    May I suggest that you post your unanswered questions in post #60 to the Fuel Economy section? You 'll be able to get much more responses over there.

    there is also a review of the Prius on Top Gear on Thursday 8 p.m. 18 may 2006 on Channel 76 (BBC Prime). Happy coincidence as the official launch is on the very next day.

    The Singapore dealer (Borneo Motors) is giving only a 3 yr warranty on the battery pack. To those of you who have been driving the Prius since it's launch, is this an issue? Hybrids are rare in Singapore (16 classics sold, 26 Mk2s orderd, only 1 delivered so far) and no one really knows how reliable all this new technology is. Any inputs?

    I'm one of the 16 classics owner and I've no issue after 3.5 years. Although there was a Service Campaign in 2004, my HV Battery was replaced FOC even though it has past the Borneo Motors' 1 year warranty period. FYI, I have not encountered any problems even before that SSC. The SSC was performed as a precautionary measure to prevent any possibilities of electrolyte leakage which may cause master warning and hybrid system warning light in high humidity or rainy weather.

    The HV Battery in the Mk2 has been further improved on the reliability by evenly distributing the heat generated within the battery. You can read about it here.

    What grade of petrol are you using? I posed this question to some of the technical people from the dealer and they recommended a minimum 95 Ron. This minimum requirement was also given in the technical briefing to the sales reps. Posts on this forum have recommended octane numbers as low as 87. Have you tried the lowest octane number available here (92)?

    As what Tideland Prius said, their rating is different from ours.

    According to the Owner's manual, it says Unleaded gasoline, Research Octane Number 95 or higher.

    No, I've not tried RON 92.

    Hmm, many thanks! This is reassuring... your old Prius only had a 1 yr battery warranty eh? Borneo Motors isn't too generous with the warranties then. Anyway, I'm waiting for my wife to return from her business trip in Boise Idaho before heading down to the showroom to test drive the Prius. The Civic Hybrid would have launched by then too so I guess I'll go take a look at that too. The Prius is a more flexible family car though, being a hatchback and with a higher seating point that means less risk of a slipped disc for me as I lift my baby boy out.

    Got my 2006, (color: 8S2, I think this is called seaside pearl in USA), a few days ago.
    Someone from Borneo told me that it's only 3 years because of the Toyota people higher-up in the food chain.
