Got the triangle of death after letting the car set during my 2 week vacation. P0A80 and Battery block is 14.17V all the rest above 15.35. Dealer wants $3200 for a new one installed. That's a lot of money to repair a car worth $5000. Not sure if I want to cut my losses and move on or replace it and drive as long as I can..

110000 and it's had the inverter water pump fail and replaced in April this year. No other problems.
FYI Battery Block 13 was the low one.

    Couple of approaches.
One is to call Toyota USA for possible assistance in covering the batt replacement.
Search on Goodwill Warranty here. How many miles on? Is it past 10-years from orig purchase?
I tend to view we should expect 10-yr 150k miles even though that is not the standard warranty, gives you a sense if you've gotten your money's worth. My 2006 is still 9.8 yrs old (young).

With that few of miles, I think Toyota corporate will most likely give you some type of goodwill warranty on the battery. That will significantly reduce the $3200 bill.

I would recommend having the dealership call to request a goodwill warranty, or you can initiate this yourself by calling Toyota corporate. But with only 110,000, it's definitely worth while to fix the battery and continue driving it.

Steve Woodruff at autobeyours.com has rebuilt batteries for about $800-$900. You should talk to him. (812) 752-5050.

For ~$400-450 you can recondition it yourself and start maintaining it regularly so that it will last for several more years.

110,000 miles doesn't seem like that many miles. If the vehicle is in good shape otherwise, probably look seriously at some of the battery replacement options. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I hope you tried asking for the goodwill warranty. It's just asking and you can save thousands.

I asked and they said it was too far out of the 8 year warranty.
I got my car back today. The bill said they replaced the HV battery and "Filter, HV battery" ? I didn't know there was a filter. It was only $13.76 so it must be small.
    Prius is running fine again.

Excellent, if you shopped around you might knock off a couple hundred, but alienate the dealer, pay shipping and wait awhile.
A new traction battery, another five years.

    110,000 miles?
Wow ... seems premature ... ours is at 220,000 miles.
Do you run it EV (no gas engine involved) a lot?
In the past it was corroded connecting straps between the cells and not the cells that failed.
Toyota can't/couldn't be bothered to repair when they can swap-in a new pack on your $3200. dime.
Not sure if the same corrosion problem might still impact newer models.
Is yours exposed to salt or other unusual environment?
Ours came, via used car dealer, from NJ but has been in South GA for several years.

I've owned it over 7 of it's 10 years. Early on I tried to run EV to save gas but soon realized just letting the Prius tend to itself was most efficient. I do a lot of City short hop driving. I think that is harder on the traction battery than long haul highway driving.
No excessive EV mode used and no salt problems in Louisville.
Question Has anyone heard of a "Filter, HV Batter" Toyota part # G92DH-47020 ? They included that when they replaced my traction battery.

My '06, previously owned by little ol' lady, went out at 44k miles. Time is more the factor I think.

When I removed my battery for repair, I saw no such animal. In fact, no filter is why the fan gets clogged and cleaning it is recommended while you have the battery out.

The Dealer Service replaced the strange filter with the traction battery . The filter cost $13.76. It must be a very small filter!

A google search of the part # describes it as an HV battery filter for around that price range so you didn't get ripped off per se but I can't find it on any parts fiche showing the location of said mysterious filter.

The Gen 3 parts catalog shows a filter for the battery. No such thing on Gen 2. I think they padded the bill, just a little bit.
