Sounds like the intake through the egr might be restricted. A good place to start. Ever changed the pcv valve? How did the spark plugs look when changed at 120 k?

That is what I am hoping. I just need a summer weekend where I am not doing anything to tackle the EGR. I changed the PCV valve at about 150,000 fully expecting a clogged valve, but I was surprised that it wasn't too bad at all. It rattled and I was able to blow through it. It has been a couple of years since I changed plugs, but from what I remember the plugs weren't bad. They weren't wet.

I found my pcv valve to be functioning properly at 120 k. Best when changing out the egr cooler to have a weekend and a second pair of hands available ( if I did it again I would have done it with a coolant flush as I drained the coolant out to avoid a large mess on the garage floor;)).

But free weekends in the summer are hard to find:(.

I have the same problem with my 2010 Prius.... My dealer told me he is seeing a lot of Prius 's with this problem he thinks Toyota is going to recall this engine soon. The Camry and Rav4 has already been recalled for this problem defective rings and pistons. So I'm waiting............

Has anyone switched to 0W-30 weight oil and has been using it for some length of time with no issues?

Why would 0w-30 cause problems? Just lose a bit in mpg, and probably better protection

That's my thoughts as well, but would be nice to hear from some who have made the switch...
