    Hello all

I'm new to the Prius and love my 2016. I was wondering if the 2016 Prius two has the smart key trunk unlock, where I can have the key in my pocket and just press the button above the license plate? Thank you for your responses.

Not a direct answer to your question but my 2016 Three with ATP has it and also has a lock button next to it as well which is convenient if needing/wanting to lock your car when leaving without taking the key out of your pocket or going back to the main doors.

I have the 2016 Two Eco I can open the trunk without getting the smart key out . I have the lock botton in both front door too. If you hit the smart key twice all four doors should open plus the trunk too. Hope this help.

I believe that the Two is the only one that doesn't: It just has driver's door SKS where all others also have passenger and rear door SKS.

congrats and welcome! sounds like no, but there's a table of features sticky that will tell you for sure. or you can just try pressing the button on the hatch with the fob in your pocket and the doors locked.

The website says it can only unlock on the driver's door. Congrats on the new car!(y)

Is there an automatic trunk release inside the 16 to pop the trunk without getting out

On my 2017 Two I have the drivers door unlock set to unlock all doors. When I need the hatch I usually use my hand to unlock those doors and then the button on the hatch works. I am too lazy to pull the fob out of my pocket.

I do not think I have an inside trunk release in my car.

Technically you do, although you would only use it if your 12V battery was dead.

Had to do this once and it was painful. With the battery under the hood all is well these days. Also the older models had jumper terminals under the hood.
I have looked for 12 months on my two 2017s and no hatch release. Would be a nice upgrade for Toyota.

Inside release is nice until you forget and accidentally slam the spoiler up against the open garage door.

Worse!! I had a royal brain fart and forgot that the hatch was open when I closed the garage door. Big divots in spoiler. Spoiler is black, so I just painted over the groves. :notworthy::cry: One of these days, I need to take the time to work out a system for backing into the garage, but it's kind of narrow. Maybe then, I won't be afraid to replace the spoiler.
    {edit to add: When I checked the service history, I found out that this isn't the original spoiler.}

You use the door unlock button on the drivers door to -unlock- the hatch (and drivers and front passengers door). Then you can use the button on the outside of the hatch to release the hatch latch and pull it open. This works when the car is in "ready" or when it is off. If the car is in "D" this may not work.
Put the car in "P" and the doors should unlock depending on the way the car is set up.

Be aware, depending on how the car is set unlocking the drivers door may or may not unlock the passenger door and the hatch. You may have to use the door unlock button (my car is set this way). If you want to change the way this is set, you can do it if you have the GPS screen. If you don't have the GPS you -may- have to get the dealer to change this setting for you. Check your owners manual.

I like having just the drivers door unlock when I enter. It's a little safer I think.

By default, on Trim Two, unlocking the drivers door does not unlock the others. With only the drivers door unlocked, you cannot open the hatch, even with the key. You can change this from the middle Settings screen even though Trim Two does not have GPS. If you need further direction, I can try & get the exact menu location for you. My 2017 should be the same as the OP's 2016.

Perhaps this is different behavior than on previous generations of Prius but the original poster has a Gen 4 Trim Two. I notice the manual lists an antenna at the rear of the car with the footnote "If Equipped".

There's also this - may only be USA models?

On the US Trim Two, only the driver's door has that sensor. I also suspect some higher trims have an exterior antenna in the rear to pick up the fob near the cargo door. On the Trim Two, all doors need to be unlocked before the cargo door can be opened, in my experience.

Bearing in mind that my car is a UK Business Edition, which isn't exactly the same as USA's 3, grabbing either of the front door handles or the hatch button unlocks all doors simultaneously. Conversely, one touch of the handle, button beside the hatch release or fob locks all doors and a second touch sets the deadlock.

The original poster and I have 2 which only has drivers door smart key. The higher trim levels have more capabilities.
