Letting family members borrow your Prius?

You're braver than me, I haven't let anyone else drive it unless I'm in the car except Toyota service people, with one exception. I think I offended the insurance guy who drove it into the garage to check it for hail damage, asking him if he knew how to drive one.

 

Borrow my Prius in your dreams... I have roller skates, a bike, skate board and an ATV you can use BUT NOT MY PRIUS ! But the wife keeps asking..........

hohoho! No WAY would I let anyone else drive my car. Gads - they may screw up my mileage! Especially my husband, with his lead foot. His SUV mileage is 15-17 litres/100k .... gasp! I average 4.1 litres/100k. I have anxiety pangs when the techies at Toyota move it into the bay for oil changes!

 

I let my dad drive mine... and he managed to get into an accident.

never again will someone drive it... except maybe the BF... cause he bought me ice cream and was in an all fire hurry to leave the ice cream shop....

 

Give them the valet card.

Besides one valet/service dept. employees, my dad is the only other person to drive it.
I wasn't with him and he said the card was good. He expressed worrying about turning it off, too.

 

I let my brother-out-law and his wife drive my Prius to Denver and back. 800 miles roundtrip. They got 47 MPG. Filled up 3 times. They seemd to take to the "new, weirdness" of the Prius just fine. Have a little sense of adventure. They couldn't have been happier and that makes me happy. Spread that around, it's sorely lacking in this world.

I feel most fortunate to own not one, but two, of these great machines!

Letting others drive one, still means we have one to drive ourselves. Smugness squared.

I've had my Prius for 4 months. Until two weeks ago, my wife had not driven it- I had not gotten around to giving her a "training session." But we were at a party, I was having a good time but she wanted to go home. My choice was to take her home, or let her drive the Prius and get a ride home. Since I didn't want to leave, I gave her a quick rundown of the SKS procedures, and she and the Prius made it home just fine.
The first time I test drove a Prius, I had no problem figuring it out, and I should think that any reasonably intelligent person should do fine as well. I'll still use it as a an excuse not to pay for valet parking, though

 

You can borrow my girl friend, my dog, my house, or my pickup truck-but not my Prius. I let other people drive it if I am with them but I don't feel comfortable turning anyone loose with it. The only exception is one friend who understands the technology, took the time to learn about HSD, and just bought a Camry Hybrid. I also let the people at the Toyota dealer drive it when they service it.

 

My father has driven it once around the block (with me with him). My wife is a technophobe so she doesn't want to try. Nobody else I know wants to drive it.

 

Fortunately, my wife is still afraid to drive it. I hope she remains that way.

 

How can you spread the Prius Message if you don't let other people drive it? Why be so protective and conservative? It's just a car, isn't it? Different, but just a 4-wheeled vehicle to get us from A to B. My 23 year old daughter started driving the car right after we got it and right after she got her permit. And right after that she scratched it on both sides and soon crashed the rear bumper (in spite of the camera). There is a shiny new bumper on it now. Anyway, the car does not mind, why should I, why should we? Come on, loosen up guys
Oh, my other daughter, a few years older, occasionally drives it too. No problem. Why should there be. It's one of the easiest cars to drive

I let my brother drive mine and he hit a very large Raccoon or Opossum, I had to replace the lower grille.

I would recommend telling them "You're not leaving until you get this right," otherwise they may ask the inevitable question of "My not leaving until I get this right?"

 

I let my 2 sixteen years old drive mine. I have stayed up though waiting for the car to come home. Getting more use to it now.

We let our now-home-from-college daughter drive it and our high schooler drives it under learners permit.

(Get 'em while their young.)

College daughter loves it-she thinks it's cool. High schooler said "eeewwww" when we came home with it.

Besides, teens shouldn't be behind the wheel of a 425HP Chrysler and none of them ever want to drive the TR6.

So no choice, even if we cared, which we don't.
