Anyone have any thoughts about silver vs. any of the other colors, most specifically Magnetic Grey or Black or Red?

You live in Texas so black is out and even red (as pretty as it is) is going to be a problem. Just like me, you better stick to a light color..

I thought Barcelona Red is pretty bright.

Silver might be your best bet as it's reflective and doesn't show scratches as easily as darker colours.

    hey everyone,
i paid the deposit for a magnetic grey #7 or #8 in San Francisco. the dealer said he would call once weekly to tell me where i was on the list but has never called after three weeks. when i call there, they only given really vague information, like "it typically takes 3-12 weeks to get a Prius." seeing how i ordered a magnetic grey, it seems like it could take much longer than this. here's a couple of questions:

1.) there's a listing on craigslist for a magnetic grey #7 from some guy who says he'll deliver it to me, or he'll pick me up and take me to a dealer that's 3 hours away but won't tell me where "because if I told you that, I'd be out of business." does this sound too sketchy?

2.) do people think the leather is really all that?

3.) how long do you all think it might take to get the magnetic grey through the dealer?

4.) am i running out of time for the carpool lane stickers and tax credit? maybe it's worth it to go with this mystery guy...

    thanks!

I've had my magnetic gray for a bit over a month now. I would say between silver ang gray my first choice would be gray. I tend to like gray cars though. My last one was gray. I get a ton of complements on the color of my prius. The magnetic gray has a nice sparkle to it. I was more impressed with it once I actually saw it. In my opinion all of the 2006 colors are good. I haven't seen one that makes me say "blah!"

I would stay away from black unless you have a garage. I owned a black vehicle once and it was a bear to keep clean. Don't get me wrong black cars are beautiful they just like to show the dirt and scratches unless you have the time and money for upkeep.

I think your best bet is to try to see all of the colors you like in person.

Now off to wash my car..... B)

I don't trust it. I too responded to a dealer on craigslist and they told me which dealership they were. It's way too sketchy if they don't tell you which dealer they are. Try another ad on craigslist.... this one seems wierd... good luck!

Yup, too sketchy. What's in it for him? Is acting out of the kindness of his heart? A few questions:

Is there a real, legally accessible/sell-able vehicle involved here with a real VIN number you can verify?

Why would a dealer hold a car while your mystery guy finds some tuna to sell it to, when the dealer himself could easily sell it immediately for more than MSRP?

Where does the money change hands?

I have posted several promos for the dealer I bought my Prius from because the dealer was great. I got a fifty buck check from the dealer for each of the five Prii he sold to folks I sent to him. That's totally different from your mystery guy's proposal; I gave out the dealer's name and had nothing to hide.

I like the magnetic grey but I chose silver. Being in Texas, the darker the color the more heat. Also, since you are in Dallas area as well, you might consider the silver. I had a black Jeep Cherokee before the Prius and I swear every time I parked it anywhere, someone would just have to hit it with their door. I was constantly battling scratches. It drove me crazy. Go with the silver.....I couldn't be happier. :)
