pip will not recharge your battery ev miles while driving on the highway. it will recharge when the battery gets as low as your lift back, when it recharges, but only the same amount, to keep the battery in it's proper state.

must have, which assumes a new battery? but his post in another thread on pip ev miles declares status quo.

I have been checking battery aging (3 years young car) by both methods:

    1. Checking by charge it can accept (kWh counter installed constantly in my electric distribution box on this dedicated line):
The two main variables here are IMO starting SOC and temp. I have registered only those measurements @ 21-23 C, 26-28 C and full 5 bars on the HV battery icon (have a regular trip where the EV is depleted about 2km from home at or near a red light, arriving at home just when the 6th bar on the HV battery disappears).
Aging found in this method is 3% per year.

    2. Checking by actual distance traveled in a regular round trip (gauge estimate display is no good) registering only trips with no climate control and similar variables: occupants (1), driving temp, charging temp, weather, traffic etc.
Aging found in this method is 2-2.5% per year.

using method 2, i'm around 15% down, so it makes sense to me.

just got a call from charles at toyota hq. he is going to get in touch with my dealer with the info. they will contact me within 2 business days, and i can bring the car in for testing.
if something is broken, there will be no charge for testing and repairs, but if the computers show that everything is fine, i will have to pay for diagnostics, at whatever rate they charge.
unfortunately, charles was fairly new and unfamiliar with pip, which has always been the case at my dealership as well.

I have had the same problem. I have a 2012 plug-in with a tad over 50K miles on it. The EV miles when I started were 14.x when I bought it (2013), which decreased to 12.4 (~2014), and recently to 9.2 (last 4 months). I haven't changed my driving route or style (and am actually more conscious of trying to maximize the EV). I recently started charging the car at work, and see that I am charging between 2.6 and 2.7 kwh everyday.

I read previous chats where posters were criticized for blaming the battery when other factors had been the case. But, I am not sure how to wrap my head around the fact that the EV range has changed so significantly in the 3 years that I have been using it. I also have an extended warranty on the car - so not sure if that route may help me with

Tough to tell without more data. From your charging data I'd say the battery is about right, but of course there other variables that can't be seen from just the guess-o-meter. The battery is pretty simple to decide if it really is a problem. You can usually tell by battery voltage, internal resistance, and SOC issues. You can get this off an OBD II gauge (software or hardware). Then there's the rest of the car: PDUs, ECUs, inverters, pumps, fluids, brakes, wheel bearings, tires, alignment, weather, road conditions, climate control, the 12V battery, and, my favorite, connectors (cables, bus bars, etc.) between anything.
