I noticed it after 5000 miles. I have 40k now. I have been fighting toyota about this issue since 5k. They replaced the intake manifold. No go. I have used every type of snake oil. I have tried changing my oil at 4k instead of my regular 5k. I have tried pulling the egr and cleaning that it had soot but not clogging. I do notice I have quite a bit of blow by when I put in a catch can. Dealer keeps telling me the same BS story no error code. No problem. Its frustrating a tech even went as far as to explain it as its cutting fuel and you are feeling the engine recieve fuel like a manual transmission.

I have read every post dealing with this issue and every forum I could find and I tried everything since the dealer refuses. I have replaced spark plugs, cleaned the fuel injectors, cleaned the intake manifold. The spark plugs were wet but not with fuel. I have tried techron, b12, seafoam, gumout, I have tried adding Mos2 to my engine oil. I have done an engine oil flush. Still the same issue. I am wondering if its the pistons and compression issue.

I have driven another V... The V and normal prius are the same car except the body is changed. They say you wont feel it on a new car cause it learns your driving habits and changes. I say okay if thats the case why does it happen when a different driver drives the car. They say it alreay has learned your driving habit and adjusted when the car is new its a blank slate.

I have called Toyota they say they can only go by what the dealer tell them. This is why I am here asking other prius owners if they are experiencing the same issue. If not I seriously think my car has some issues.

of course, the engine has to free wheel above 42 mph. ut a new one should feel the same, i don't think they've changed anything until gen 4.

I didnt notice it on a new prius. However I didnt have a OBD meter to check if the engine was dropping down to 990rpm. If the engine is over 1000 RPM then the shudder doesnt happen. Do you experience this shudder?

So is your prius on the highway smooth? Or does it feel like a hiccup or gear change when you are coasting then get on the gas.

hiccup or gear change. it's never been that smooth a transition, but smoother at some speeds than others.

No one has suggested that.. I have wondered that myself. The transmission damper. But the issue is Toyota says they will not aka throw parts at it.

I only feel a shudder when engine cuts out at low speeds. Dealer says if it is the trans damper it's close to a $2500 repair.

Im still under warranty. Thats why I want it taken care of. However, it seems under warranty toyota doesnt want to try to fix issues. Dealers only will fix something they know toyota will pay for. When it comes to the dealer and toyota and fixing cars under warranty it is such a crimialistic act. The way the system is set up is only beneficial for Corporate toyota. Everyone needs a trouble code for them to even consider it an issue. Mechanics dont like to work on cars that doesnt have a clear payment to them because they get paid per job. So out of warranty repairs they like because no matter what they get paid.

So after doing a bunch of different things. I finally opened the hybrid battery compartment and the plastic exhaust was very close to being closed I stretched it back open and drove and the shudder is almost completely gone. I am thinking the exhaust wasn't escaping fast enough causing the issue.

Is it still working? My car is doing the exact same, I have the spark plugs and was getting ready to start in on trying to find the issue. Mine is shuddering at pretty much any speed when trying to just crack the throttle to maintain speed. its either coast or go nothing inbetween.
