p3000 code for 2001 prius

    Hi

    I have a toyota prius 2001 with 23k mil, i made a service to it yesterday and changed the engine oil and the spark plugs, and everything was fine, at night i was driving to the gym and suddenly the check engine and an orange triangle showed and a sign of warning on the dashboard, and the engine shuted down and had to drive with the electric engine and parked the car.

    the next day at the workshop we did a reset for the faults and the battery was dead so we had to jump start the car but it didt even start with a jumpstart and then came the code p3000, i checked all the fuses and tried to re-charge the battery for 4 hours but with no use.

    I dont think its a hv battery since the car has 23k miles on it.

    please help me

    Regardless of what you assume, P3000 is a general HV battery malfunction fault. Also, age is more relevant than miles, and it is entirely possible your HV battery battery has problems, given the car is ~15 years old.

    since i know the engine had stop working, and the at the workshop we where trying to start the engine witch made the hv battery drain and since the engine wont start that means the hv battery will not recharge.

    which means the hv battery went into secure mode and gave p3000 because it had been drained.

    this is my theory about it and i hope its rite.

    Was the oil overfilled?
    That may have made it so the car would die.

    Then, when you kept trying to restart it the 12v and then the hybrid battery were drained too low.
    You only get a few instances of non-starting (maybe 5 key-ons?) before you drain the hybrid battery too low for it to function properly.

    12v battery is easy enough to deal with as far as charging it back up.

    The high voltage battery will be harder to recharge.

    So basically:
    - confirm oil level is proper. drain extra oil as needed. mop up extra oil in the intake (under the throttle body)
    - get the 12v in good health/replace it
    - charge up the high voltage hybrid battery with whatever means you can.

    i sent the car to toyota service center to check what the fault is, since i took away the new sparkling blugs and put the old ones and i lowered the oil and got a new 12v battery and the car never started.

    ill keep you updated what the fault will be so people with same problem would gather information

    If the HV is drained, what is the procedure to recharge it?

    Easiest way is to use a High Voltage DC charger to charge it.
    Would probably take an hour or two at most.

    But it is unlikely you own a high voltage charger.
    You could buy one from. Hybrid Automotive.
    Or build one yourself.

    Otherwise use a low voltage charger and charge individual modules one at a time. You'll need to take the cover off of the battery for that.

    well the car had been at toyota service for 10 days and today they told me that we have 1 recharger in sweden and one authorized person to charge the main battery and he is 400 km away from my city and its going to take sometime to get the recharger and that person...

    what a world wide company with one person and one recharger.

    FWIW, it is the local arm that makes those decisions. But you can kinda understand it as the charger will seldom get used by the dealer and would make no sense for every dealer to have to carry a charger on their inventory.

    The high voltage battery was recharged and the problem was the spark plugs and when changed to the original the car came back to life.

    if anyone get the same problem then this is how to fix it. Get the original plugs and recharge the high voltage battery and you are good to go
