To All 2016 Prius Non-Touring Owners,

I bit the bullet, and ordered OEM fogs for my Four.
    Around $400 delivered.

I will ramp the car this 3 day weekend, and see what is behind the black
blanks. May need to purchase wiring harness if no wiring is existing.

I will keep you posted on my progress.

Photos of front, back, online site.

Yes keep us posted. Your receipt says "selected model: Four touring" will those fit Four trim?

My ordering depends on how easy it is to install after you post your experience

congrats and thanks for doing this! the connector looks to be the matching one to the wiring harness I found behind my blanks. and it had 3 out of the 4 pins present. does your lamps have 3 or 4 pins? hope that you find your car has the harness there preexisting as well. if not you can probably make your own using connector parts ordered from hi-1000.com. good luck!

How are you going to turn them on without a switch?

looking ahead to the install, I assume there will be wiring(per mark) behind the blanks.
There appears to be 3 DRL, and 1 fog lights, but one plug in socket.
Have to see what happens when I plug in.
I did 3 fog installs before, but it was only 1 plug, 1 light, 1 switch. Plug and play.

I was planning to tap into the parking light or headlight fuse, so 3 DRL will go on with parking or headlights.
I can go through firewall if I can find an entry point. Need to ask other PC members if anyone
    did wiring through the firewall.
I will not do the OEM switch on the steering wheel. Too much work, and over
my level of skill. A simple toggle switch.

An observation on the lights is it is quite complex, in that it has 4 bulbs, triangular, and has some
weight to it. 1-2 lbs each? I'll try to weigh it before install. Not your simple round, single bulb
light. I can see why Toyota would nix this in exchange for higher mpg.
My mpg will drop a little, I guess.

You don't just use them in the fog??

(Why do I suspect I'm completely behind the curve, lol?)

no, as DRL. No real fog here, but it did hail on my house once!

The boys in blue do not enforce headlight/fog light laws like other States.
I know the OEM fogs are not very good for foggy conditions, but because
the 2016 have working active grill shutters, I don't know where 2016 owners
    can install good, bright fogs.

    mark,

    Mine is 3 pins.
So did 3 smaller DRL power up?
Did you need to do a separate power lead/switch for the
    upper larger light?

I'm ok with the black blanks. I can't see them when I'm behind the wheel.

I actually now prefer to drive around with the Parking Lights on during the day. That gives me DRL's, yellow lights up front, and red "Z" taillights in back. Now I'm "California Cool", like all the young dudes.

hi stt, yup that's the same connector mate for the prewired harness. the 3 pins on my harness i could only figure out two of them, ground and one other which comes on together with the parking and headlights. the third one always seems off which i left connected to the 3 drls (for now). I connected the 2nd one to the big fog light because if i connected to the drls i would prob get pulled over at night for glaring into other drivers eyes.

i will have to add a 87a crossover relay and tap a ready or accessories 12v line to drive the drls instead so that they will turn off once i turn on headlights at night.

btw the fog is on top and the 3drls are on the bottom don't put yours upside down :)

    IMG_0125.JPG My Prius stable!

Well, I ramped the car up this morning(photo 8), and removed the fog blanks(photo 2) to see what is behind there.
Unfortunately, there was no wiring harness. I did the install, but need to power up in the next phase
    after I buy a harness.

Total time was 1.5 hours. I took a little longer, as I took photos along the way.

Some tips/notes for others who choose to do their own install:
    • Weight of 1 fog light is almost 2 lbs. So 4 lbs total. ( I'll tell wife to lose 4 lbs, so not to lose mpg!) lol!
    • There is 3 10mm bolts, 1 push pin for each splash pan to remove.(photo 1)
    • Blank panel has 2 screws, 2 push clips to remove.(photo 4,5)
    • Fog light has 3 screws, 1 push clip to secure the light.
    • Should insert the red body panel(photo 5) long pin in the slot (photo 3) on the side of the fog light housing FIRST, before installing the screws. This will hold the fog light in place so installing screws is easier.
    • I wasn't able to install top screw on passenger side, as washer fluid reservoir was there. I may be able to install from engine compartment. It is stable enough without the top screw. Not going to remove other panels just for top screw.
    • Done! (Photo 6). Blank covers shown next to lights.
    • Tools: 1/4 ratchet metric set with philips attachments, screw driver, flashlight.
Photo of install completion (photo 6), plus my Gen. 3 & Gen. 4 in the garage.(photo 7)

I'll post back with harness install later. Need to search for best fit.

    mark,

Did you run wires through the firewall?
Looking for easiest route, if I decide to wire switch through firewall.

Might post to find others who went through firewall.

i just popped off a plastic triangle and see there is no harness under there from what I can tell... are you guys going to build an entire harness from scratch?

hi stt i didn't need to go through the firewall as the prewired harness was already linked to the light switch stalk. for your case one easier route
may be to get a fuse tap instead of going through the firewall ?

I just ordered an OEM harness from Toyota parts online. $72 delivered.
I figured since I need the square connector, I'll just order OEM harness. Same place as the lights.

I may run a switch through the firewall, as fog lights has 2 different lights to control.
Will a fuse tap turn on both sets of lights?

I saw that W. Redoubt did run wiring though the fire wall.

Need to wait til harness arrives, and give this some thought.

look around the vicinity behind the triangle blanks for a black tubing harness bundle terminating to a dangling 4 pin grey connector. in my jdm prius it was electrical taped to the side of a adjacent running black plastic tubing on the washer fluid side. on the opposite side the grey connector end was inserted to a white terminating block which was itself clip mounted to one of the holes in the square tubed steel frame. it may also very well be absent in other region prius. if that is the case then yes you can build one from scratch. you need the mating grey connector and 3 pins from hi-1000 via rakuten. these will join you to the connector on the fog and drl lamp assembly. then extend the 3 pin wires a long way in a bundle either to go through the firewall into the cabin or tap from somewhere in the engine bay. probably should also encase the bundle in plastic tubing for protection.
