Did Toyota delete the mph/kph selection in the speedometer of your US 2016 Prius?

Yeah it would be pretty easy it seems if I had that button on my page ha. Maybe I am too new to create a new thread... That button is non-existent for me.

You have to actually go into one of the forums to see that button. If you're in the parent forum (like Gen 4 Prius), you won't see that button. You have to dive deeper (e.g. Gen 4 Main Forum or Gen 4 Fuel Economy)

Anyone know when Toyota is fixing this? Or offering to buy the cars back?

It is also missing on our 2016. I had to have an employee park in Buffalo and rent a car to drive into Canada to work since driving our 2016 Prius is illegal there since it can't be changed to Kph.

Quite honestly with all the shortcuts Toyota/Lexus are taking with software and safety I don't think Ema will be replaced with another Prius when she hits 500K next year. Sad since I have owned nothing but Toyota for the last 2 decades.

I know my 2017 Prius Two has the selection.
Another forum member said Toyota's solution for the early 2016 buyers was to buy a newer Prius. We really need @Prius Team to verify this.

Citation on it actually being illegal?

Keep in mind that importation requirements may well be different from what a visitor is allowed to have...

^ This. It's one thing to be visiting Canada, with US plates. Another to be registering the car in a Canadian province. Still, I think this stinks, Toyo should fix it.

The odds of ever being pulled over for it are infinitesimal BUT if you were in an accident and found to be driving an "improperly equipped" vehicle. Bye bye insurance coverage and then as a company vehicle you are open to lawsuits and actions of all sorts. It would get VERY DEEP very quick. All because Toyota decided to take another shortcut. It needs fixed ... yesterday.

I doubt it's illegal for visiting drivers. Any source? If you don't know, why muddy the waters with hearsay?

This would not be an issue with an analog speedometer, where putting alternate units is trivial. And with digital odo on second and third gen, Toyota managed to get it right.

For the first few months of 2016 model year, they screwed up. And in remedying the issue for the remaining months, they tacitly acknowledged the screw up. But they continue to duck-and-dive regarding the early adopters.

Did you talk to legal too? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: That sounds like what they said.

They really didn't want to touch it so basically said "Don't drive the car there until Toyota fixes the issue."

    Update,

I spoke with a Case Manager at Toyota yesterday about this issue and the highly dangerous Bluetooth issue and Toyota has no plans to correct either. Basically on the Kph issue they said it was a known issue in early builds that has since ben corrected but they have no plans to fix or do anything about the ones that are broken.

That is EXACTLY how you get early Prii supporters to become former Prii supporters. In all honesty it looks like Ema when she goes will be our last Toyota/Lexus vehicle. This problem is minor but the Bluetooth phone issue not being corrected is really very dangerous.

    Happy driving,
    Chris

    Ema? Meet Penelope..... :)

I don't like any of that cell phone or Bluetooth stuff. I think it can become a huge distraction for some people.
Frankly, I wish they would just not put that into any cars.

I am the original poster of this thread. I was told the remedy to fix the speedometer is to purchase a new 2016 or 2017 Prius to replace my new Prius.

Toyota advertises, "Let's go places." For truth in advertising, Toyota should really say, "Let's go places, except to Canada, Mexico and the rest of the planet because some Toyota speedometers can't display metric units."

As Toyota refuses to fix their broken software in my 2016 Prius, I don't think it is customer focused that Toyota owners will need to pay about $14,000 to $16,000 more to purchase a new Prius to replace their new Prius.

If Toyota can't fix the speedometer and navigation software in their 2016 Prius vehicles, as a manufacturer, they can crush my vehicle at their factory and replace it under the Toyota limited warranty.
