Anyone heard anything? I'm thinking 2018 but hoping for 2017. I have 150k right now, and will have 215k at the end of next year, so that would be perfect for me. If I have to go one more year, I project I will be close to 280k. I've had 0 issues with my v (it's still a lowercase v for the Prius v wagon because only 2010 Prius used uppercase Roman numerals for model designation) so far, but after 200k, anything can happen.

You should check out the Prius v:300,000 miles club forum, some people don't have an issue with their v even with those miles on.

IT will be a Gen-4 system, which is out for 2016 in the hatchback. Since they did a cosmetic re-design in 2015 I wouldn't expect a Gen-4 based v till 2018, but anything can happen.

v (lowercase v not V for the Prius v wagon) still appears to be set to continue as a gen iii motor & nimh battery.

So will the next gen v be out in 2018

No one knows, all we can do is speculate.

I hope for a new v in 2018, and a new c in 2019, then a minor refresh of the Liftback (and Prime?) in 2020.

Found an article that quotes Toyota USA senior executives - essentially stating that whether to launch a 2nd Gen Prius v in US is under review.

However, forum rules prevents me from posting link as I am a newbie... The article can be found by navigating to hybridcars_fullstop_com and accesing this article: toyota-updates-prius-family-sales-projections-prius-v-future-uncertain

If someone else that is not newbie can post link as response that might be helpful.

The article does not discuss whether Toyota Japan is developing a 2nd Gen Prius v for other markets though.

I believe that article was from Feb and is linked in the extended post below. Toyota has made a hybrid Rav 4 that is essentially the same size as a v but holds more and can be setup for a hitch legally. But the mpg is low compared to the v. The v has a higher numerical final drive ratio to handle increased load which lowers it's mpg from a standard Prius. The market will make the call.

The RAV4 gets lower MPG mainly due to the 2.5L ICE. I'd really like to try a Rav4 with the 1.8L system, even if it doesn't get up all the hills. ;)
OTOH, a Prius-v with the electric AWD system and a couple inches more clearance might be as popular as the Rav4.

No way. The 'I'm a macho man' (or woman) look of a CUV/SUV has rendered wagons uncool. Look at the last two years sales figures. And the 8 MPG difference is ignore-able by buyers with gas priced as it is today. In several years, who knows.

The difference between Rav4 and Prius-v MPG is more like 10-12 than 8.

Well the 2G Prius v will have to differentiate itself from the R4h somehow. An Auris Sports Tourer to compete with the Jetta Sportwagen wouldn't be a bad idea. Since it's not a Prius, it can afford to "lose" some mpg for styling, handling and lower msrp.

However, if Toyota wants to continue the mini MPV hybrid market, they need to allow for 7 seats in the US version (and specify that it's meant for around town jaunts for 7 people OR 5 people with luggage. If you want 7 people and luggage, then get a larger minivan). It needs to be in the 2+3+2 configuration like the Prius+.

Also, I know it's a Prius but it sorely needs the 2.5 HSD and not the 1.8 HSD. Carrying around 200-300 extra pounds with the same power as the Prius before adding people and cargo may work in Japan or Europe but it's a bit underpowered for America imo.

Odd, I can break traction off the line with my v.... Perhaps that's why I only get 38.9 MPG?

After driving my mum's hyCam with the 2.5HSD for 3+ months, I have to absolutely agree with Tideland to a point where I cancelled my order of the v for my family. The 1.8HSD is too under powered for a 7-seater people mover. 2.5HSD is what the v needed. If they can shove the 2.5HSD in it, make it a larger almost like the international Honda Odyssey sized, call it something else so the MPG differences are irrelevant, that would make it more competitive.

The Sienna is too big and heavy. It'll probably require the 3.5HSD out of the HiHy/RXh. It'll have the same problem as the Prius v - not enough power so you end up using more fuel and offsetting the small displacement advantage.

If Toyota can get PHV costs down a bit more and better battery density, they may be able to go straight to a Sienna PHV.

The Prius v is a good size for taxis and car-sharing. It's spacious for passengers and cargo. And frankly, the flexibility is great for taxi - carrying max people (7 pass) or some people (4-5) and luggage. In the rare case they need to pick up 6 people and luggage, the taxi company can always send for a minivan.

Great point again Tideland! How about the Avensis? It was sold as a 7-seater wagon... Here's a pic of it.

A little taller and longer than the v, but the FE was not great. Toyota discontinued it in 2010, bought in the v in 2012. However, the v was never about to sell as many as the Avensis, even though the price is pretty decent.
