So anyone got a good cheap solution for not being able to see the touch screen when using the GPS due to sun glare?

Screen brightness/contrast is adjustable. Window tinting helps too.

Are you wearing sunglasses? I can't read the screen with sunglasses on.

Just this week I searched for a visor like the Gen 2 and Gen 3 have, but nothing for the v yet.

There are lots of "screen protectors" available that could be trimmed to fit. Some of them have a matt finish that cuts glare, but so does the screen itself. And I'll wager it already has such a film on it. Still it shouldn't hurt to try, they are easily removed. I'd look for one made to fit a 7" tablet.

But window tinting will solve it too, at least it did for me.

Make sure your sunglasses are not polarized.

Your sunglasses are polarized I bet! With the wrong polarity the screen is effectively blanked out! It also could use a good sunscreen like I have in the Gen II.
The BEST option would be for Toyota to step up the bar a bit and install OLED screens in their autos. The best advantage is they can be read and are completely viewable in the sun!
    Wouldn't that be nice!

I'm bumping this thread because I cannot find any newer discussions. I'm driving a 2015 and I *hate* the touch screen. I can barely see it in sunlight, and if I have on my (yes, polarized) sunglasses, there's absolutely nothing there. I'm surprised that the problem has been around this long and yet Toyota hasn't improved the screen. Has anyone come up with a valid solution that doesn't include a piece of cardboard? Sorry, Bisco :)

You are correct, the glasses are doing it. My polarized lens dim the screen but do not blank it and we have max uv most of the time. I do have quality metalized tint on all windows except the front which has no tint added. All at legal tint levels.

The reviews aren't overwhelmingly favorable. Anyone here have one and can comment?

It is thin plastic (the good news, in an accident it will give way and not hurt you) and rattles, (I keep a sunglasses bag on mine which quiets it down) and you can't load or unload a CD without removing it. It blocks the sun, well over 90 % of the time.
