Adding factory tech features

Just a comment on what you think your missing. The 2ed best feature IMO, is the DRCC. It controls the speed of the car based on the car in front of you. Fun, and I use it in slow traffic. But it is just cruise control so if you have regular CC, your fine. The lane departure is no more than a beeper. I never feel it try to steer the car. Fairly useless feature to me. I don't have all the self parking stuff, but I don't need that.

The 1best feature it rear end collision warning, and I hope automatic braking. I like when it goes off.

So you don't have any of this? I would wait for the self driving car in a few years. That said if money is no issue I'd buy a Tesla.

 

DRCC was the TOP priority - imperative - for my car selection list. I've got it, I use it all the time, city, country. It works wonderfully - you need to be aware at all times, but it hasn't let me down in 4500km, I rarely touch the brake or accelerator pedals. I would never choose to be without it

Lane change does warn if you're straying from your lane, and has anti-snooze/drowsy warnings (haven't seen one yet). It also does steer back toward the lane, but only in a sort of fashion, as a safety aid, not like a TESLA, VOLVO or MERC which will actually steer for you.

Auto Braking has only worked for me once, and has given a warning twice. I think I'd like to keep it for the time I need it.

That's all I've got - I'd have liked the blind spot thingy, but was a $10,000 option!!!!

 

I am so happy I bought my car with the ATP! I use all the features daily.

I highly doubt you can add those features to a lower trim and think if you are determined to get the ATP equipped Prius it might be best to trade up..

 

This is an absolutely legit excuse to trade-in Angie for the Prime model coming out at the end of the year
All 2017 Prius (Prime or not) come equipped with full-speed DRCC

 

I would like the Prius prime, but the fours seats thing would rule it out for me... have to wait until they bring out a five seat model!

 

I'd be reticent to get a 4 seater too - though in the 3+ mths I've had mine, nobody has used the rear seats yet. I'd be surprised if TOYOTA doesn't eventually bring out a 5 seater, maybe in time for my next car. 4 would probably work well in Japan, the rest of the world, less so.

If not, Hyundai, VW, Kia, FORD, GM, Renault and others have or will soon have 5 seater PHEVs which will put the pressure on TOYOTA.

 

Yeah - we don't use all five every day or anything, but there are enough journeys with wife, daughter and parents-in-law, or daughter and friends that use all five seats, that it would be a real inconvenience to only have four.

 

Well, if the Prime is not for you then just trade up a model or two in the hatchback. I'm sure the dealer will be thrilled to help you. Even with the "new car loss" it would be less expensive than buying the parts and attempting to install them.
Toyota is known to not include the wiring needed for options not installed at the factory, and buying the parts separately is rather expensive. So while it may be -possible- to add the features you desire, it's not economically feasible.

 

I feel sorry for the OP. We're just rubbing it in...

ATP is awesome; my favorite is the blind spot monitoring (although it's a basic feature). Automatic emergency braking is also great to have, although less used. HUD is my second favorite, because I use it constantly. DRCC is the coolest though, but I rarely use it. I doubt you can add these feature to a lower trim. You can always get an aftermarket HUD...

 

Being a commuter, I LOVE all the new features! Use the DRCC all the time. Love the auto brights and wipers. The BSM is da bom, as most of my commutes are in the dark and it's a huge help. Love, love, love the 3-beep turn signals, as I drive and change lanes frequently. The only features I don't use regularly is the lane drift notification and parking assist.
Can't imagine my commute with anything else, which is why I upgraded to a 2016 from a 2013. If you're a nerd, you will adore the bells/whistles.

Don't think you can add on any of the features post-purchase. They'd need to be after-market products.
