After a month with my Prius C the Hybrid Battery died, or so I was told by the Toyota mechanic, the weird part is that the car is still running and it's actually saving more gas than when the battery was fully functional, but how long does it take for the dealership to get the battery and how long does it take for them to replace it?

a few days to get it (depending on availability) and a few hours to replace it.

can you give us more details? why did you bring it to the dealer? how many miles on her? is it covered under warranty? etc. thanks!

I brought it to the dealer because it's still under warranty and I got the please stop and check hybrid system message, plus the check engine and warning lights came on, she has 30,800 miles and they almost charged me because they thought that I modified the car, when in fact the car has been kept in factory state ever since I bought it

I got the same problem at 67k miles, too bad no more warranty. I have a gen 2 prius at 211k miles and still running fine. The dealer in Singapore is quoting 4 weeks for the battery and 1.5 hours of labor.

Wow 2 dead c HV batts in one day...I think the first we've heard.
Ken I am trying to recall if it was @alanclarkeau talking about batt fails in Gen3 taxis in Australia. He was saying tends to be more than one cell bad so harder to fix DIY than Gen2.

Just got a call from the dealer, the replacement battery arrived and they'll be expecting me by 9:45 tomorrow morning to work on my car, they said it would take about 2 hours to replace the battery! I'm so happy right now!

What about your car made the dealer think you modified it? It's stories like this that make me leery of mechanics.

I don't even know what made them think that. The only thing I added were seat covers and steering wheel cover, unless they saw the extra jack that I had in the trunk

Your battery issue just seems unfortunate and out of the ordinary. I wish you had someone in your area to get a second opinion after the new battery is in. Might be even worth notifying Toyota Corporate about it.

Hi - no, don't think it was me - only Gen3s I checked with were full of praise for the battery life - they were expecting them to last the 5yr limit of life of a taxi before it had to be retired from service.

Unless my forgettery is working better than my memory today. :(

What would any modifications have to do with the Hybrid battery, I could see the 12V being affected, but the Hybrid battery should not be impacted by any mods.

Well is that not the point? Companies are in the business of making money, not losing money! But I disagree with you on your statement as Toyota does often make repairs on good will and does not charge the customer anything!

Not sure what bad experience you have had in the past, but I have gone to Honda, Lexus, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, and Mercedes dealers over the years and all for regular maintenance and have never been told I need something other then what I was there for.

I have been given the hard sell scam a few times in the past. Right now i take my cars to either the Chrysler/Jeep dealer where my brother is a service manager, or to a local(former) Suzuki dealer that i trust completely. I will be getting mY Prius C this weekend, and since it is still under warranty i will take it to the local Toyota dealer. The last time i had a car service there was when i had my Scion xB. My wife took it to the Toyota dealer for an oil change, state inspection, and since it would already be on the lift with wheels off, i asked to have the E brake adjusted, as it was catching pretty high.
The service advisor tried to sell us almost $500 worth of work. The car had all of 26K miles on it. They insisted the Power steering fluid was "black" and "no good", and was a little low. They listed a bunch of other nonsense also. My wife told them to only do what she had asked. They told her they were going to charge her $79 to "adjust the rear brakes". She declined.
When she brought the car home the first thing i checked was the power steering reservoir. As i suspected, the cap had a film of grime on it that told me that it had not been touched. They had never even looked at it.
I called the dealer and talked to the service manager and raised hell. It's bad enough they are recommending services that the car really doesn't need, but they didn't even bother to check the fluids that they were supposed to check.
I haven't gone back there since, but i will have to return with my Prius C when i get it.
