2005 paint peeling forgive me if this is a repeat

    my 2005 prius has her paint peeling. I live in sunny texas where it is always hot and sunny. Does anybody else have the paint peeling, and if you did how old was your paint job? thanks, and forgive me if someone posted this before.

    Sorry to hear that your paint is failing. Living in hot and sunny California I am always surprised on how good the paint looks on most Prii from the Gen I, Gen II to the Gen III. Its very rare to see one that does not have great paint.

    Yes, both my 2004 and 2007 have the clear coat on the rear spoiler peeling. The 2004 also has the clear coat peeling on the plastic piece above the license plate, attached to the rear hatch.

    I have peeling problem on my 2008 only. All my 2005 vehicles are holding up nicely

    I think it may be one of the few Toyota flaws, I noticed some other Toyotas with peeling paint.

    Well in all fairness it is 11 years old, and if its been out in the sun for 11 years, you really can't have to high an expectation for it to stay new looking. Also, the paint industry has had a hard time going from oil based paint to water based paint, the water based paints are not the same quality are oil based paints.

    I have the Salsa Red Pearl and its starting to peel on the spoiler and the horizontal piece of metal above the rear windshield.

    The paint on my 2005 bubbled where the license plate touched it. Probably a galvanic reaction between the aluminum and galvanized plate. I bent the plate out so it didn't touch the hatch. Also the paint came off the hood where my wife backed into it with the Rav4.

    I had not even considered galvanic corrosion! Now I've got to purchase a license plate frame that isolates the plate. Glad you pointed this out.

    well to add to my car becoming more of a hooptie, my wife backed into a truck at a Mexican restaurant this week. So the rear bumper that was not done right by the previous owner is now being held on by gorilla tape, so my paint is now less of a worry and peeling paint probably looks better than gorilla tape.

    It's called patina. The gorilla tape is just personality.
