I'd go for the three with tech package or the touring. Both have good safety features and the dynamic cruise is so worth it.

If that local dealer is smart and cool, they will give you a rental while you are waiting for whatever car you want to come in.

When my sis was in Chicago, the local dealer was super accomodating. She was contemplating on getting a corolla b/c needed a car now, but really wanted the Pri. Dealer gave her a rental for free, once proof of insurance was verified, for 2-3mos, while they were waiting for her Prius. Crazy huh?

Ask you dealer if they can do that. You'll buy the 2017, wife needs car, volvo falling apart.

Touring is out of my price range, but what is the Tech Package?

On the model three, the tech package includes Toyota Safety Sense and the sunroof.

    Hmm tech package sounds good.

But I thought all 2017 Priora came with the Safety Sense package?

Yes. On the 2017 models, they do. So the difference might be a sun roof (and maybe the HUD on the three) with the tech package. On the three touring you'll not be able to get those two options but you'll get the way cool plastic seat covers and the so cool 17" wheels dressed up with plastic inserts. (the three has better looking alloy wheels under those hubcaps FWIW). You should take a very close look at the differences before making a decision. I decided I didn't want the touring wheels but I wanted the HUD, cross traffic alert, and the JBL stereo, so I got the FOUR with the tech package and options package. I've used those things quite a bit and I'm happy I decided to bite the bullet.

I thought you were looking at one of the 2016 models that many dealers seem to have in stock. If you are shopping, try and get one once they put the little cap thingy on the parking break. They can't sell them because of this little doodad isn't in stock and the 2017's have already been announced. That's just my opinion. You might be able to score a killer deal. The two model years are identical as far as I can tell. The only difference is how they charge for the packages. Same car.

Look before you leap, opting for a level with sunroof. Some people love them, me not so much. We had one car with a sunroof, 30~ years back, it was pretty much a novelty, nothing more. It will reduce headroom; you should sit in demo's with/without sunroof, see what you think. They add weight, are one more thing that can go wrong, not closing properly, leaking.

Well, in general and objectively, I'd say if you KNOW what you want?
Then hold out and find a way to make that happen.

You originally sounded pretty sold on a Prius Two Eco.
I wouldn't let logistics and local availability stop me if that is what I really wanted. And I had the luxury of time to spend.

    But on the other hand?

If you REALLY aren't that sold on a Prius Two Eco, and can be lured, tempted or just convinced a different package and trim level is as good or even better? Well at the heart, they are all Prius.

But bottom line? Get what you want. Toyota is a big company, they want to sell you what you want. And you are paying. Compromise out of the gate is IMO never a good thing.

Decide what you want and will be happy with, and THEN go for it.

Toyota is not selling 2017's either..... because of the parking brake sans fix.

Last car, I knew exactly what I wanted... Red interior, tan interior...

This time I'm a little more flexible. Blue or Black exterior, Two or Two Eco. It just needs to have black interior as I'm not a big fan of the moonstone interior.

There is currently a recall for a parking brake issue. Not a big deal and is fixable, just don't stand in front of the car when it's in ready.

Hmmm.... I wonder if the collision prevention would work in this situation? I'm not brazen enough to try and figure out how to test it.

Have I got something wrong, or isn't the brake problem "parking brake" related?

Then again, it's a really cool collision protection system that stops you first, then applies the parking brake!

I thought I read that it was a problem where the car is left on and the parking brake depressed. If so, would not the car stop itself if the parking brake failed?

The problem seems only to be an issue when the car is left in drive

You could settle for a 2016 eco two. When I bought mine I only waited one week for them to install the parking recall part. Eco two is a better choice for MPG. Most of my commute is highway, at a quarter tank i got 185 miles, awesome!
