Is there way to over ride POI safety?

My wife and I are on the road with the new Prius and use the Nav alot. The only problem we have come across is the safety that Toyota built into it. When driving you can use the first part of the POI screen and then it goes blank telling you that you have to come to a stop to look for a site. This would be ok if you are alone and driving. But my wife is with me and she is trying to find a site. Has anyone found a way around this? So that another person can look though the list of POI's.

BestSonic has an override switch that allows your passenger full use of the Navigation system.

On road trips where I expect this to be happening, I bring along a separate Garmin GPS. It has a much more comprehensive database, much better search tools, and (if model is chosen appropriately) free 'lifetime' map and POI updates.

Read the manual covering the voice commands. It is technically possible to initiate a POI search using your voice, though it can be frustrating if it doesn't recognize what you're saying correctly.

Something like, "Find gas stations along my route" or "Navigate to Target near here".

Some time back, a certain local billionaire mentioned the difficulty machines were having in reliably distinguishing between 'recognize speech' and 'wreck a nice beach'.

You'll want to think about not installing an override - at least not one of the overrides that kids are installing in the back of the unit.

In addition to the Karma thing (YMMV) you can't count on LEOs and Lawyers to stay dumb forever.
If you get into an accident they're already looking into phone records where I live, and they're installing NAVI units into every OEM on the road today.
If you squish somebody's kid and some slip-and-fall lawyer finds out that you have an aftermarket VSS (POI) override installed then you'll probably find out how high the liability limits are on your insurance policy aren't.
