I did do a forum search to see if this had been posted and did not find any comments.

I called our dealership today to confirm our 1 pm pick up of our new 2017 Prius 4. They told me that they just learned about a Prius 4 'Stop Sale' in the United States involving some 92,000 Model year 2016 - 2017 Prius Model 4 cars.

Toyota reports they will start notifying affected Prius owners in November 2016.

Well that shot my day all to.....

Here is Toyota Recall announcement link:

If you open the door while the car is running in drive, reverse or neutral (I don't know how you do that inadvertently) the display flashes the orange warning symbol, written instructions appear telling you not to get out of the car before shifting to park, and a continuous warning signal is triggered.

If you turn the car off, it goes into park automatically.

In short, you would to be blind and deaf and stupid to put yourself in a position that could be impacted by the defect.

Edit: Fixed a whole bunch of typos

    Pretty much.

I hate to be the kind of donkey that says that if this kills a driver that did this, they deserved to die... oh, no, I don't hate to be that donkey.

If this kills a driver that did this, they deserved to die.

    He will survive just fine.

The person who will get killed is the poor schmuck that is forced to drive his 1990 Ford Taurus with bad breaks for one too many months because he isn't allowed to buy a 2016 Prius.

unfortunately for toyota, and gen 4 prospective buyers, stupidity is an excuse. otoh, a few million clips taking this long to produce? shame on toyota.

i have a half dozen notices on file for our two toyota's, telling me they've identified a problem, but don't have the parts to fix them.

Pretty interesting, My car was eligible for the recall. Eariler today, I switch my car into park mode and press the emergency brake. After I got out of the car to check something, I switch to the lever to drive mode with the emergency brake still in tact. Somehow the car move and the dashboard warned me that to release the parking brake. Hopefully there's a solution to this.

This "stupidity"theme keeps occurring on PC. I urge you to google "Darwin awards" and see just how stupid person can be. You'll probably split your sides laughing into the bargain.

So any recall issue locks down every unsold car until the issue is resolved. No matter how serious the issue is?

"Safety Recall" I do not know how that is legally defined.

Has anyone heard anything about the parking brake fix? I assume the 'sold' cars on the lot will be fixed first? The Toyota recall site seems to be down... and my dealer does not know anything. Hoping this does not take too long...

I'm wondering the same thing... I can't find anything online that indicates when the stop sale will end. Dianne mentioned "a couple of weeks" here: Anyone know if the current 2016 inventory levels will be replenished since 2017's are already out??

I'll have to hit up one of the dealers that had a gen 4 I was interested in.

I'm wondering if I can "buy" a car, and just wait until the clips come in to accept delivery ?? I'll have to ask, but might gamble to see if the $2000 incentive goes up when the current one expires on 10/31.

Toyota updated its recall site with "Remedy Available" either late yesterday or this morning. Not sure exactly what that means with regard to timing, but, it is movement.

The dealer informed me last Friday that the clips should be delivered this week. Telling me the sold cars are fixed first - in the order of the sale. Mine is sitting at another dealer -- it's a 2016 ... they did not have many 4T's around.

If gas prices don't go up .. I'm sure the 0% will come back. The interest cost for the 2016 over 6 years vs the 1.9 on the 2017's is over 3k .. the greater discounts on the 2016's plus the $500 Toyota cash .. is another $1500 in the 16's favor That's about what the 4T costs vs the 3T.

The 2011 has 155k .... in six years with 165k on it the year difference is not going to be $4500

Same exact situation. Bought a 2016 4 touring from a dealer in Ohio, and I am from Indiana. They did not give me a date when the clips would be in/installed, but this week would be amazing. Keep me posted if you hear anything!

yeldogt and mhawkin1, please keep us updated... I think I'm going to put a deposit on a Prius Eco in the next couple of days, so I'll be waiting on the clips to be delivered and installed also.

I just spoke to the dealer and got a lot of "I dunnos"..... so, we shall see. He did say "I think maybe I heard that they might be here this week?" I said, well, that sounds super convincing..
