Just replaced the oem Toya a20 with the Michelin premier a/s.. so far so good, took a major hit on the miles per gallon. went from 58 mpg mixed to 48 to 50 mixed.. how long till getting decent milage back. I understand new tires and since the premier is not LRR.. it will bother me for a while.. but there was no way to pay $240 each for a toyo a20 on tire rack. it was $650 out the door at coscto with 70 dollar rebate. ride feels about a little softer.. I like the firm ride on the toyo.. but michelin has better winter and snow capacity. I didn't want to get the Michelin pilot's sport as3, my milage would suffer. I replaced the oem at 43k, could have gotten another 10k, but winter and inclement weather conditions, why risk it.. what do you guys think, I looked at ecopia but I was not impressed by their sidewalls and winter performance.

so far so good? i hope you get some mpg's back. some folks do, and some folks don't. what tyres pressure are you running?

did you consider michelin energy saver a/s?

standard 35lb costco fill, the door says 33lbs.. I have 300 miles on the tires already.. they are gripping better than the toyo a20's and very little road noise to none ..

great tyre, no doubt about that. if mpg's don't improve, you could try bumping to 40 psi and see what happens.
mine says 35f/33r, have they changed it since 2012?

wouldn't that make the tire less grip and wear the center band..? I guess you near a wear period of 2k miles or so.. I'm not complaining but I guess it can happen to any tire.. the pilots as3 bing flatter and stiffer sidewall would be worse..people using that on the prius wagon..

I've heard Michelin Premier A/S is their new Grand Touring tire. Supposedly it's good for wet traction. Didn't know about the mpg hit but the tires are new.

I had Bridgestone Ecopias as factory tires. They're a good basic AS. They're quiet, a bit soft riding (but not plush like other more expensive touring tires) and LRR so they wore pretty well. Unfortunately, they're crap on ice (like any AS) as I found out when I swapped out my winter tires too early and got caught in a freezing rain event. If you don't get a lot of snow or you have a separate set of winter tires (like I did), then they're fine.

I didn't see any hit on mpg ! When from 17s to 16s wheels w Michelin drove S.F. to L.A. mpg was same as oem! 42-45 mpg The Michelin are like night and day traction wet\ dry and comfort the toyo a20 are noisy, and had much less traction, with upgraded suspension system!

Geez that's quite a drop. I believe Michelin (and Tirerack) do categorize them as LRR. I'm 17" too, beginning to wonder what the heck is next. Maybe the OEM's are "made in Japan" and fine tuned more for LRR. It's puzzling.

These are 17" tires, the spec'd pressure for them is lower. The 17" are less forgiving of over pressure too.

This morning commute, normally I get upper 60's on oem.. acceleration is weak also, seems the tire is griping or very heavy.. hypermiling is no more.. cruising close to 41 mph on battery does not exist any more, push the gas pedal and ice kicks in at 24 mph.. I hope it gets better.. soon. I'll go back to Costco and have they put a few more lbs of air in the tires.. I thought it could be the gas, I filled up at local BP, much better but nowhere near oem tires milage.. oem had a firmer side wall and great for cornering.. 17s feel a little spongy.. but heavy like your hauling rocks.

I would air them up yourself, regular air is ok. Costco will likely refuse to add more air then spec.

    Thanks for the reports btw.

I'll do it in the morning.. I'm just afraid of putting to much air causing premature wear.. and traction loss in inclement weather..

maybe an email to michelin with a request for help? that's a huge drop in mileage.

I also have a Persona that had the Toyo Proxes A20.

I never did get my MPG up as high.

I also bought my Michelin Premiere A/S 87V
From Costco with the $70 rebate.

After thousands of miles I'm getting between 48-50 MPG, depending on the season and temperature here in the Bay Area.

@Xterra72 Would you say in your case the drop in mpg was not much?

We're still on OEM Pilots fwiw, recent tanks around 50~52 mpg.

With our Pilots I use 36 psi all around. A little more kosher would be drop the rears one or two. A decent pressure gauge is worthwhile. Check them, cold, before doing any adjustment. (17" low profiles don't tolerate higher pressures that well. )

I've got an old stick gauge that works good, seats easily on valve, closely agrees with a digital gauge. I believe it's PCL brand.

I've got another, newer one, that is very hard to get seated on the valve, gave up on it.

I'm similiar weather in nj.. could be the cold Temps also taking a hit in the winter season.. but the car feels so heavy and poor acceleration is unheard of.. could be a mix of bad costco gas even in premium fuel.. I switched to Speedway regular fuel and seems a little better... tell ice kicks in erythromycin early like the battery acceleration is too weak.. never had this issue before.. I was so used the high mpg.. I. the warmer months.. the winter 40 degrees is here but acceleration on battery feels like I'm hauling 40 bags of mulch in the trunk...
