I just purchased an alpine car stereo and am considering installing it on my 2005 base unit prius.

Question 1) will I be able to use the steering wheel buttons to control and change the music?
    2) will anything else be messed up if I replace the stereo? ( temperature buttons not working..)

    3) if so, what can I do so in the end, I have an alpine stereo in my base unit prius with all of the steering buttons working?

since you have a base model, all you really need is a metra axxess interface for the steering wheel buttons and an adapter harness from scosche which has a 68 ohm resistor made into it. I would contact crutchfield for the correct parts.

Spoke with Crutchfield and it seems you'd need about $150, not counting the radio.

that seems a bit steep. you might try ebay or amazon for a better deal.

I bought the PAC TATO and PAC SW interface for $20 off ebay. What do you think about these? What trim kit do I need?

What is the resistor needed for? And how do you install it?

The resistor is needed to terminate a data bus. Since its included as part of the adapter harness, you won't need to do anything additional for everything to work correctly.

You mean it's included in the PAC TATO?

the 68 ohm resistor probably isn't included with the tato, you need to check the instructions to see if it is. if it ain't, do a forum search to find out how to install it yourself, or buy the scosche adapter harness from ebay.
