2016 OEM Fog Lights Arrived!

    I could be totally wrong on all this, this is just what I would expect given the situation

    If this really is a harness for the fogs i suspect this is how it would go....
    The harness would plug into each fog but the plug where it meets the main harness will not exist on the main harness to plug this into. As a result, a harness would need to be made. The components would be most likely the mating connector head that fits the fog harness and the 4 or so leads and a few inline fuses. The wiring of this custom harness would probably have one going off to ground and then depending of the remaining, there will be at least one for the drl power and at least one for the fog power. The drl could be tapped into something in the fuse box or probably go through a normally closed relay where the coil is pulled in by the headlight power. This will invert the drl action tied to the headlight on automatically and nothing has to enter the engine compartment. On the other hand, the fog power will need to be run to a power source most likely the battery directly, but if you want control over them then the circuit will need to go to a switch inside the cabin.

    my concern would be how the headlight power works. It appears the headlights turn on now as a form of drl. This would mean the headlights are powered during the day and cannot be used to control the drl relay coil power because it would always be pulled in. I need to investigate more if there is a different circuit that is only powered when the headlights are actually on.

    lohi,

    My OEM harness scheduled to arrive Monday, 10/17/16. Fingers crossed
    that it is correct harness.

    Will ramp up car this weekend.
    I looked at tying to see if I can screw in the top fog light screw on the passenger side
    from the top engine compartment. I do not have large hands and arms, but
    I was barely able to squeeze my hand/arms in. I can feel the screw hole,
    but don't know if I can get a screw+driver in, without being able to see the hole.
    May need to buy a small, magnetic tipped screw driver.
    You will see the challenge when you do your install.

    one tip to you and others doing this install, is to tape or putty in the
    top screw of the passenger side light.

    That way, you don't have to struggle with small screw, screw driver in a hard to
    access location.

    to future OEM fog light installers,

    Update:
    My harness from Toyota dealer was wrong Harness. I returned.
    They quoted me $3000 for Harness for fog lights.
    Apparently, it is a main engine harness with the fog light wiring all bundled
    together. Nixed that.

    They are sending me 2 Ea 4 prong square connectors to fit in the fog light fixture.
    I will wait to see if this is the correct connector. Mind you, that this is from an
    authorized Toyota dealer, not an after market parts seller!

    So, moving forward, I plan to purchase a generic fog light harness, with
    wiring to operate 2 lights. Connect the 4 prong connector, and power up.

    I had a Ford Focus I got the Fog light connected to the battery with a switch . Why can't this be done on the the Prius. Anyone ?

    It can be done, but a relay and fuse is a safer way to do it.

    IMG_0146.JPG One caveat: After I cut the slot for the switch, I realized that the switch sticks out 1" in the back, so you may need to look for another space where there is clearance in back of the switch. I just let the switch protrude for now, as I liked the left side location. I may do a build out box, or move it later.

    2016 non-Touring Owners,

    Finally able to finish my install!
    Assembling all the parts needed was time consuming, not knowing what the part number is.
    Tried to use OEM parts, if available.

    Got the the square connectors 90980-10942, 2 EA. No wire connectors with connectors.

    Got 6 EA 82998-12440 wire splice connectors.
    Bought generic fog light harness from blinglights.
    It is the type to operate a 3 setting switch.
    Cut a 1/2"X3/4" opening on panel under steering wheel. Insert switch.

    Powered up and Light On!! Success! (y)

    Total:
    OEM fogs: $400
    Harness: $40(email Nick to sell you harness only)
    Harness with coupler/wire splice is just long enough to reach both
    lights with very little play. You need to center harness precisely in the middle, zip tie,
    or add a length of wiring to provide some slack.

    4 pin OEM Connector + OEM wire splice: $17+$52.(little piece of wire $9 EA, ouch!)
    Misc. wire connectors: (used exiting I had, crimped it to fit)
    semi-skilled labor to install: $0.
    Total: $510

    Once the Chinese knock offs are available, price should come down to $200+, I would
    guess. I was hesitant to send my personal data overseas to buy a knock off. I would have waited til available on Amazon or eBay.

    Check lohikaarme's post on his install for other tips, photos. Same end result, he just put
    together his own harness.

    11/10/16 Update: eBay has Chinese fog lights with harness for under $300.
    Not certain on quality, reliability done the road. Save $200+!
