lease the turbo for 3 years, you'll probably beat the oil price rise.

I appreciate that but I drive more than most leases allow without penalty and premium fuel is recommended (though not required) for the turbo four (2.0 Ecoboost). Think I can live without all-wheel drive in northern NJ and take the hybrid MKZ which uses regular grade fuel. Though it's the least powerful MKZ model by a mile, it's peppy enough for me. Sure wish they offered AWD on the Hybrid but they don't (no room for both, I guess).

As a NJ alumni, that's a big tax change, but perhaps more like the nearby states.
Does the sales tax decrease off-set gaso tax at least partly, on a new car purchase?
Be sure to buy that MKZ after the sales tax goes down, so at least you get the new "deal".

It would a bit but I plan to buy in the middle of next year and the sales tax is to be whittled down gradually. The percent decrease will be fairly small so it won't make much difference. Honestly, even a base MKZ Hybrid is nearly out of my price range so it's a stretch to buy one at all. I just want to treat myself a bit with the sort of premium sedan I've never enjoyed before. I'm also a bit envious of all of the BMW's, Audi's and Benz's I always see at my gym but also don't want to be a "me too" by getting one of them. The MKZ is less ubiquitous and also less costly than most of those cars and would make me feel a bit more equal to those cars' drivers.

    PC,

Noticed a recent rise in gas prices here.
Right after the election. Trump effect?

Regular now $2.99! An increase of around $.20 in the last month!

Prices up in your area, State?

Oh just stop bringing up Trumps name, it's irritating.

It's just that oil refinery repairs which were delayed during the high price years are finally pushing thru, now the prices are down. Aside from this, dumb oil investors are bidding prices up because some OPEC members are 'voluntarily' cutting production, lol.

On the Canadian side, we are screwed even more as carbon taxes are about to be applied by some provinces. Prices spiked roughly 10% for us in Ontario in the last few days.

Gas rising by $0.20/gal overnight was a bit disheartening...especially with the piss-poor winter mileage your Prius gets :( Just have to remind myself that I'm driving a Prius whenever I see gas prices rising...

Where'd you go? I usually go to Sam's Club but due to not wanting to deal with holiday Walmart traffic during Xmas I went to Shell in Kaimuki and it was $2.83. But that was a couple of weeks ago. I probably won't fill up again for a couple more weeks.

Spiked here too. I just assumed it was because it was NYE. It hasn't dropped since then.

I paid 3.00 yesterday when I filled up. (I always round up that last tenth of a penny)

Yes, the winter driving is killing my mileage. I'm only getting 56. Boo hoo. ;)

I'm driving twice as far and still spending less money on gasoline than I did with my previous car. But the gas mileage wasn't the primary reason behind getting the Prius. I have a car payment.... something I haven't had to do for thirty years. So that was an uphill climb for me to accept. Once I accepted it, I decided to get a car with all the new safety features and one that was comfortable for me. I'm such a geek and I do love my tech toys. That's why I got model four with all the options. Other than my three times a year need for a pickup truck, I'm extremely satisfied with the car.

I'd hate to abandon my MKZ Hybrid for a Prius Two Eco; no offense, the Toyota's a nice car but it's not a Lincoln. But if gas prices keep going up, I may well reconsider.

Yes very unusual, my $1/gal Feb_2017 prediction is going up in smoke.
But crude price is being bid up by the markets, may not hold.
Smart money may be on failure of the OPEC production cutback, not sure yet.

If you get the Two instead of the Eco, you get a real spare tire and almost the same mpg.
Part of the mpg difference is likely because Toyota raised the recommended tore pressure on the Eco even though they have the same tires.

Nothing like your own criminal neglect justifying increasing the price for your own product.

How many million gallons of Petroleum products were spilled last year?

Heck the pipeline the native Americans were protesting burst 160 miles upstream, never did hear if it was fully contained and what the total spill volume ended up being.

Gone up 20 cents a gallon here in the last week or so. 2.89 on the corner by my house. And the summer blend hasn't hit yet, which is good for another 50 cents.
