Bottom front cover removal

    Hi all;
    I found recently that the plastic/rubber thingy that goes under the front bumper and connects to the front bumper had broken loose and got damaged. I had no choice but to cut it out so I can drive. Its not the whole bottom of the car but rather 4-5 inches of the front bottom cover.

    I know this would affect my MPG performance because of aerodynamic and temperature issues. But I was wondering if any other issues can be affected by me doing this 'operation'. My main concern is safety but other issues as well.

    You can buy another cover.

    No danger in not having it, it's to protect under the car....just lose the protection.

    It's like not having a bumper, car is fully functional, just don't hit anyone

    I was shopping those, ended up repairing what I have. Are you in the "48 contiguous States"? You're location info is missing. If so, this is one deal I found, think it's what you're looking for:

    There's several bolts, screws and one plastic fastener you'll need too, if they're missing.

    What I found is happening with that piece: it can take a bit of scraping of you driver over a curb, but if it's a concrete wheel stop and you've rolled completely over it, it'll snag as you try to back off the curb, messes it up more significantly.

    Thanks for your response. I'd rather not spend the money and the headache of putting it on if not a safety issue.

    Without that piece in place though: the next piece, the main engine underpanel is more exposed, the gap will be a bit of an air scoop. Your call.

    For the front piece there's 6 of the bolts (back row), 6 of the screws (front row), and one of the plastic push-in (front centre).

    Look for a wreck that somebody's parting out. The labor is pretty easy.

    I took mine off, to repair, without even raising the front.
