Yes, we can privately import - but I'd have to get the steering wheel put on the correct side ;) to let me drive it. So, really, no.

Our vehicle design rules are so out of sync with other countries' I'll just wait till fuel prices go up and TOYOTA reconsiders. I want mine in Thermo-Tect Lime too - except they won't sell that outside Japan - yet.

You know, in my opinion I look normal. There are others would not readily agree with me!

I think you'll find most of continental Europe drives on the right also, except Eire and UK. ;)

I must be strange because I liked the look of the car the very first time I saw a video of it.

I wonder idly if car designers get into their "peacock" phase during stock market bubbles? If that's the case, maybe we're overdue for a crash.

    So
Sorry, but don't agree. I've wanted a Prius for years. Was going to buy a 2015 but then heard about the improvements coming with the 4th generation so waited. My girlfriend was in favor of buying but when she saw the 2016 at a car show she fell in love with it and we bought one (4 Touring). I personally think it was time to update the looks. The older ones looked like breadboxes on wheels. The new ones a somewhat more aerodynamic and I like edgy styling if it doesn't impact functionality. As for the tail lights: I get "Wow!" comments from friends.

Obviously looks are a matter of preference. They matter to me but to me they aren't the most important thing. Other things matter more. I spend more time inside my car driving it than outside looking at it!

The 2016's headlight "look" is pretty expensive to replace: $1200+, per side. A far cry from the ol' $20 sealed beams.

Arguably today's headlights are better, but do they really have to be rolling glass sculptures?

Maybe I told this story here already but I was washing my car the other morning and my building security walked by. He said, wow, that is a beautiful car! I thanked him and told him it was the 2016 Pri. He said he had a Corolla. I asked why he went with that over the Prius.

He exclaimed, Oh the Prius is ugly! I hate it.

I said, what about this one?

He said, no, not for me. I think it's ugly.

Pointing again to my own car, I asked, you don't like how this looks?

He said again, no, it's ugly.

I went back to washing and he said again, boy, that's a beautiful car!

    I said, ya, thanks.

The comments about the 2016 being ugly are interesting to me. I have always thought the Prius was ugly, well, not as ugly a its original competitor, the Honda Insight, but, still, ugly. I actually thought that particular ugliness, or maybe uniqueness is a better term, was seen as some kind of badge of distinction among Prius drivers, something they took as fact and were proud of. But, when the 2016s appeared, I thought they finally looked like a normal care, not the best looking one, but quite handsome, and, at least, one that did not say, "Yeah, I am a hybrid and I look like one. Since I am a hybrid, my looks do not matter." I will say that it is the jump in the MPG, rather than the new look, that has put me in the market for a 2016 Prius, but I do see the new look as a bonus.

To the op, If you really like the Prius but is turned off by the current design....have you considered masking the ugliness with a body kit like this?

I've seen those kits, they're awesome. The rims unfortunately can't change size. I don't want to compromise MPG.

I really like the tail lights. Okay... I should just shut up. I'll kill the market. ;)

I think the persons who bought the older generations liked that styling. The new styling was obviously intended to attract a new crowd...I like it, my friends like it, it turns heads...
