    MSouthard,
You will still want (need?) minivci/Techstream. That will provide you waaaaaaay more data and has much more functionality than Bluetooth.
I mentioned the Bluetooth since it has basic scanning, and sometimes it it just less fussy to use than dragging out a laptop. and waiting for the Techstream software to load up.

The last Bluetooth adapter I purchased cost under $15.
If you want me to send you one, give me a call and I'll get one sent your way.
Otherwise just grab one off of amazon.

bikes4U, the car is currently not driveable, so the OP is unable to take it somewhere for a scan.

MSouthard, although you did not mention it, I'm just going to ask anyway... you didn't recently do an oil change on the car did you? As in the last 30 miles or so? Double check the oil level and report back here.

    Yes, I agree.
That is what I was saying...I don't think it is the 12 volt.
Hoping it was...as it is usually a much simpler and easier fix.

No, I have not done an oil change. I was about to go have one done when this all happened. I will be checking the oil this week when I am back in pcola.

Without codes and not seeing the car in person, just trying to do some guessing here.

This is a strong indication of a high voltage leak. The corresponding code is P3009. It is the only fault I know of that will allow one and only one restart after disconnecting the 12 volt battery. The most likely sources of the leak are the HV battery, the air conditioner compressor, the transmission, or damaged high voltage lines. Your Mini VCI and Techstream will provide sub or info codes that can pinpoint the source of the leak. It's odd that disconnecting the 12 volt battery will no longer allow the car to be restarted.

Edit, After 2004 the P3009 code was replaced with P0AA6.

It's unfortunate that specialty brick and mortar stores are disappearing like the dinosaurs. You could access the codes yourself, today and be able to read the HV battery block voltages to see if one or more of them had a module that failed if you could just walk into your local Radio Shack and buy what you need. And if Radio Shack or other specialty electronics store had it, you'd find out if your HV battery pack needs repair or replacement today.

All you really need is an ELM527 bluetooth adapter to plug into the OBDII port underneath the steering wheel (if your Prius has bluetooth - not all do). They cost as little as $5 depending on where you buy them and how long you can wait. If you are Amazon Prime member you could get one quick. I have the ELM527 bluetooth adapter installed in the OBDII port in my Prius at all times and I also have Techstream but I don't use Techstream often because it's not something that you can drive around with easily. The Torque app is available at Google Play as has been mentioned. You also need Prius specific PIDs for the Torque app so you can read the HV battery block voltages. Gen2 Prius: Custom PIDs for Torque (Android App) with formulas | PriusChat You also need an Android phone which you already have apparently.

If you have bluetooth in your Prius and can get the ELM527 bluetooth adapter quickly, I am willing to help you set up Torque so you can diagnose your issues at lowest cost. Send me a PM if/when you're ready and want FREE help.

Anyone with an older Prius would do well to buy a Bluetooth adapter.
There will be plenty of opportunities to use it to confirm error codes as your car ages.
