I'm not buying that old excuse for cut-rate construction. A back that's concave because it's droopy in the middle but firm near the top isn't particularly good for anybody of any size, although I don't doubt that some can tolerate it. It's not unusual for stock seats of moderately-priced cars to have reasonably even support, the aforementioned Camry for only one example.

Shortly before I bought the Prius, I test-rode a 2014 Nissan Versa Note. Its front seats were worse, in the same respect, combined with even more intrusive head restraints.

I agree that the seats are very uncomfortable, especially the manual seats as in my 2013 Persona. I bought a seat cushion and lumbar support back for when I drive a longer distance and it is quite comfortable. The cost was less than 30-40 bucks.

Next time, rent for a week the car you think you want, if you can't get comfortable, try a different car. As they say: life is to short to dance with ugly women.

I added lumbar and neck pillows for my hour commute when I first got it. But to be honest, the seats are not that bad. I wish I could be more constructive with my feedback, but hope I was helpful in some way.

As a 5ft7 Asian male, I am of average height for a Japanese male. The seats are entirely too big for me. I much prefer the smaller seat sizes from compact sedans. If you think Prius seats are modeled after smaller sizes, then you haven't had enough seat time in compacts. Whether Prius seats were made cheaply or for reduction of weight I don't know but it's not for a smaller body standard.

The power seat with lumbar was one of the reasons I went with a Four. Any 2012-2015 Four or Five will have that seat.

I'm not Asian, but 5'8". Spent many years in many seats (about half were compacts) and really don't know why Gen III's are uncomfortable...but they are. Word here was the Gen IIIs seats were an improvement over the Gen IIs, let's just hope they fixed them for "so many" people buying a Gen IV.

My comment made it sound like I was truly suffering. Let me clarify. The GEN III seat to me was comfortable right out of the box compared to my Gen II which took some getting used to. It didn't take a couple of weeks, I had a couple of weeks to fiddle with it. The Gen III is much more adjustable and can be dialed in for optimum comfort. That was the message I wanted to pass along.

My gen2 had no lumbar, I used a small memory foam lumbar cushion and all was good, without the cushion the seat was terrible, my gen 3 has the lumbar and all is good, I;d suggest the op get a small memory foam lumbar cushion.
If one has good posture (shoulders back, pelvis tucked) it's easy to get comfortable, if one slumps, there's no comfort, ever, anywhere;)
