Maybe so, but it does not WORK without a valid registration key.

Assuming you have a MVCI cable of some sort, did you follow a procedure as outlined in the attached file? There is no reason to run any programs such as TISKEY, copy a supplied version of techstream.exe or any such things.

Personally, I prefer to instal the cable drivers first and then install TS. It works either way, but is more straight forward when it comes to installing a newer version of TS. So I would do:

    Step 2.1
    Step 1
    Step 2.2
    Step 3
    Step 4

    hope this helps

Yes, reinstalled and CAREFULLY followed those instructions, still no joy.

I really don't mind paying for licensed software, just would like freeware better :)

    I'm the same.

Dang, now I'm going to have to install a new version and have a play around. It was a while ago that I did my install, and it wasn't completely smooth sailing.

    Ok, an update.

I was on v8.30.023 and then updated to v9.00.026. Tested and ran ok. Then I updated to v10.10.018 and tested again. It ran ok.
Finally, I updated to v11.20.019 (the current version) and tested again. This version has introduced a new approach and requires registration. So, it looks like v10.xx.xxx is the latest version to which we can update. While that may seem like a road block, it doesn't affect 2nd and 3rd Gen Prius as any version after v3.xx.xxx will do. Apart from new Model Years that are added there are bug fixes in each new version. However, when scanning the release notes, I've never seen any bugs fixed that affect Prius.

The Techstream Lite used to note it could not activate the remote start, to use the the original Techstream Snap-On VIM. The list would be very very long, that I think they may just remove the really old ones, ie from 3 - 4 years ago. (I have no reason to lie. I have the Mongoose Pro cable.)

    Hi JZ,

I'm not familiar with TS Lite, so I'm not really understanding what you mean here:
What do you mean by remote start?
    What list was very long?

Well, I've subscribed to the site a few times randomly over the years. In 2012 I tried to install the VIP alarm and Remote starter accessories. I got the hardware in, was able to activate the alarm, but couldn't activate the remote starter. Anyways. One person noted issues with connecting to a Prius, and I definitely remember issues with Prii one of the times I subscribed. It was probably around the time I was trying to install DRL function and forgot how to put the hybrid battery disconnect back properly. So I suggested trying to install a different version as a possible workaround.

Techstream Lite is what they sell as the Mongoose Cable along with a subscription to TS. I bought the cable by itself for $4xx.xx and just subscribe when I need to fix something in the cars at my house.

The bug list does not seem to be complete. It is about the most current version

When I need to I pay the $55 and it'll work for the day. Most likely cheaper than going to the dealer...
