This is all pure guess work, you reset a brake system and that might be opening up a whole new can of worms

Isn't the point of the forum to figure out how to diagnose this. I'd like to fix this as much as possible myself before resorting to the dealer which I don't have money for, nor do I want to spend the money on a pure commuter car if I can fix it myself.

To diagnose this problem, you would need to get a code reader and properly identify the issue. Guessing and using paperclips can short out important systems that can be very expensive to fix. Many auto supply shops read codes for free

Like trying to fix a failed fan in your fridge, and end up blowing the compressor because you tried repairing the wrong part

There is also an extended warranty on the actuator, if that happens to be your problem. Then the repair would be free through Toyota

We can help you figure out how to diagnose it..... and the first order of business is that you obtain tools to extract the error codes.
Once you provide those, then we can start to point you in the right directions.

The symptoms you describe could be many, many things.
So having us throw out guesses based on low information would not be very helpful.

Cars these days are complex, but with a good code reader or Tech tools, you will be able to avoid wasting time when trying to solve a problem. The name of the Toyota Software is Techstream. For novices, I suggest buying a cheap XP Laptop off craigslist ($50?)as a dedicated machine for running the Techstream software.

The link you provided does not seem to come with software. It may work, but you'd still need to purchase software.
I'd skip it and buy software and cable together.

I ordered one on amazon that has good reviews, should have it by the weekend. Now just need to go through the long process of installing the software on 64 bit machine and then hopefully I can read the codes and we can figure out whats going on.

I just read about this, it appears they will repair through end of 2017. I assume it doesn't matter if I'm the 2nd or 3rd owner? I believe this is exactly what the problem is as the brake thing buzzes in the dash every few seconds, however I'd like to verify first as I've had many cars and many not good experiences with dealers. They always try to charge for something else. Can a Lexus dealer perform the service or does it have to be toyota?

the (!) is flashing 57 and 59 and 69 now. 59 appears to be the magic one that means brake accumulator is bad. I wasn't going to play around with the blink codes, was just going to wait for the mini vci, but since I get 20 miles or so out of it when the codes are cleared, figured I would clear them as its running like real crap with the codes displayed.

C1377 may point you to a failing brake control power supply.
A used one is under $100 and should take you 30 minutes or less to swap out.

Edited to add: If you have techstream you can obtain the info code as some with c1377. Specifically, info codes 101 - 108 point to the brake control power supply as the culprit.

It was C1391 not 1377. I talked to the dealer, hopefully they are replacing next weekend. I really didn't want to wait that long, but the first dealer was incompetent that I called.

So even though it has code 1391 which the tsb clearly says replace brake actuator, they won't replace because they say there is a bad speed sensor and that needs to be replaced first before they can replace the brake actuator. I hate dealers and there is a good reason for that

EDIT: Back from dealer, codes are C0210, C1256, and C1391. According to TSB 003216 if you have any of four codes of which C1256 and C1391 are two of them, you replace the brake actuator. Am I being crazy here? The dealer is telling me the speed sensor has to be replaced before toyota will pay and that makes no sense. I will call Toyota corporate Monday to have them come and look at the car, but wondering if anyone has any insite on this.

Does techstream even show C0210 code? I can't get the code to show up. Tonight I got C1391 only. I want to make sure when I go to the next dealer that it isn't showing.
