Just got my 2nd notice on my 2011 Prius recall notice for the air bag problem. Has anybody else had this taken care of at a dealership yet?

Never mind. Found a thread on this in troubleshooting.

Just my luck. Trading the 2011 in a few weeks for a Prime (I hope) and have to go through getting the recall done...but it is my responsibility since I am still the car owner. Would not want someone to get my car and have an accident with the air bag coming out.

just tell them you haven't had it done yet. they have togo through the car anyway, easier to do it all at once.

IIRC, a dealer cannot sell a car that hasn't had all of its recalls performed.

My recall is for the passenger side seat bottom. The bag between the legs. OUCH!

A close friend works for the company here in the mountain west that manufactures most of the air bags after the Tacada episode.. I asked him about recent problems, and he said in the case of Toyota ... it was not the air bag, but the switch in the passenger seat that signals someone is sitting in the seat, and arms the bag.

Actually the GIII recall was for the side curtain airbags. A metal cover was cracking along a weld, leaving the danger of flying shrapnel in the event of airbag deploy. From the recall letter from Toyota. I think they just replaced that piece, as nothing was disconnected when they did the recall on Pearl S.

My recall states, that the seat airbag may accidentally deploy itself after the car has been parked, and unused for awhile. Well, if it blows while the car is empty maybe that's a good thing. Better than injuring someone.

Amounts to the same thing I guess, but the wording (in part) is:

...Toyota dealer will install retention brackets on the curtain shield airbag inflators...

You can (spoiler alert) read exactly what they'll do, here.
