After driving my 2007 Pruis for about an hour or a few hours in the freeway let's say at 70mph, after a while my car stops driving at this speed and won't go faster than 30-40mph using 8mpg on the highway. As you can tell that is so dangerous if it starts acting up while Im on the fast lane. I had to pull over twice already. The tricky thing is that there are no lights on the dashboard that turn on to tell me whats going on with my car. I just took the car to a mechanic and the dealership they said since no light is turning on we dont know what we can do.

Does anyone know whats going on with my car? I drive long distances, Im scared my car is going to give out in the middle of nowhere. Thanks

How long have you had this car? How many miles is on it? When was the last time you did maintenance on it? Have you checked the oil level? Air filter condition?

Poor engine power is usually related to bad spark plugs, coils, dirty air filter, dirty maf sensor, dirty throttle body, bad injectors

Just because there are no lights displayed doesn't necessarily mean that there are no codes being thrown. Have the dealer check to see if there are any.

I would expect any Toyota Dealership worth it's salt, to check for error codes before coming to conclusions about anything.

The lack of any warning lights on the dash is irrelevant in this matter. The kind of failure you describe could well cost you your life in "the wrong place - wrong time" worst case scenario.

Get a certified Toyota dealer to pull the codes.

Usually when theres no code the problem is fuel related. Try a new fuel filter or sock. with fuel system blockages the engine just thinks its out of fuel. Your prius probably ran out of fuel or close to it and sucked some crud into either the fuel sock or filter. Since you have access the fuel pump to get to the sock it may be a good idea to replace the pump at the same time since the labor is the same. start with the filter.

If the OP has a North American Prius, the fuel pump and filter are integrated into the fuel tank and cannot be separately replaced.

Also, if no warning lights are on, no DTC will have been logged.

I bought it from the first owner of the car, so I am the second owner. I had this car since October 2015. There are about 135K miles. The last for maintenance was when I bought the car. The last time I changed the oil and spark plugs was a week ago. Air filter was changed when I bought the car.

I am not sure what dirty maf sensor or throttle body etc is...

I will mention that to the mechanic. He said it might be engine related but cant do anything unless a light is on

Ok. With the new info, I would suspect the spark plugs you put in are the wrong ones for the Car or they aren't seated correctly. Whatever service you did a week ago is where you should be looking

You also want to check the oil level, make sure it's not overfilled

Time to find a NEW DEALER! As an example, there is no DTC (Diagnostic Trouble code) for a: worn tie rod end, bad waterpump belt, or incorrect wheel alignment. If your "mechanic" does everything based on a DTC, they are no mechanic.

You cannot replace the sock in your car, low fuel pressure will not result in 8 MPG.
