Tell BW this is why Venus is so hot .Because its CO2 atmosphere is under extreme pressure .Not due to infrared absorption which warming ability is already saturated at lower levels.

On a more local level, we have a terrible pollution problem with thoughtless people throwing their litter / trash / plastic / chemicals / oils, etc, into the streets and the storm drains. And then during a rain the trash enters into the flood control channels, the "L.A. River", and gets washed all the way down to the ocean.

Over the last dozen years, much hard work by various cities, and environmental groups, and volunteers has alleviated the problem somewhat. That, plus they have installed booms that extend across the channel and catch most of the debris before it flows into the ocean.

You can see the smog laying up against the foothills. That's a pretty good day.
This is another picture of the LA River - Flood control channel. It empties out at the foot of the Pacific ocean, in the harbor at Long Beach, California. (Rarely is it that full of water, due to a lack of rain.)

Nothing aggravates me more, then senseless ignorant people who throw their trash and chemicals into the streets, in streams, leave it on the beach, throw it in lakes while boating/camping, and dump it in parks. I've been stopped at a red light, and a car in front of me will just toss all their fast food bags right out the window onto the street. You also see it dumped in shopping mall parking lots. The ultimate laziness. People can't even walk 20 feet over to a trashcan. After every major holiday, many of the parks are loaded with trash. Laying everywhere. I don't know why people can't simply bag it up and take it home with them and dispose of it properly.

That has got to be one of the most ignorant things I've seen you post.

We could convert virtually all that trash into synthetic crude.

that's why we need taxpayers and government to provide the services to help people dispose of things properly. it's an uphill battle.

I just don't understand why people have to litter so much. After every rain storm the beaches close due to high bacteria levels. I think every city provides a big blue recycle bin for your house, business, and apartment. It is so easy to recycle things now days.

I recycle every ounce of newspaper, plastic, trash bags, styrofoam, even all the junk mail. (cost $50 per month for the trash/recycle pick-up service, so you bet I'm going to use it. :)) And one Saturday a month you can go and drop off any oil, chemicals, old electronic stuff. I absolutely hate people that litter and dirty up the streets with trash... especially when it flows out into the ocean. But of course there's no enforcement, or hardly any at all. If they catch people doing that they should assign them to street clean-up for five days mandatory.

i think the beaches close because the rain flows through the storm drains into the sewer, over powering the sanitation pumps before flowing into the ocean. we had the same problem until the 15 billion dollar revamp.

No one denies climate change. But there is room for discussion on the direction of change, the cause of change and other factors. Claiming there are "deniers" is just a way to over simplify a complex question and paint with a binary brush.

I only consume natural crude. It's an organic product, after all! ;)

Still have that problem in Cornwall. With the longest coastline of any county in the British Isles it can be very difficult to prevent excess rainwater run of through sewerage overflows. Private owned water company reluctant to invest the necessary £££ to cure the problem. Shareholders first in all things, customers - not so important!

Storm drains should be separate from sewers at this point in time.

I think the situation you both are describing is due to sewer treatment plants don't have covered ponds, and rain can overflow them.

In fact over here, some rainwater actually drains into the sewers, so after heavy or prolonged periods of rain the sewers overflow into freshwater drains as a safety measure. Historically, this seldom happened, but rainfall over the past decade has increased dramatically in UK with these 'unfortunate' consequences.

same over here. we don't have any sewage ponds. overflowing storm drains, emergency relief valve is sewer lines. to tear up millions of streets and put all new in will never happen.

In my area, I'm talking about intentional dumping of trash, plastic, chemicals, etc. Disgusting people. No respect for anything.

Deniers are usually conservative, so I try to appeal to their conservative side. They tend to view science as elitist or even argue it's all a huge conspiracy, so I just don't talk to them about the science part of it.

Talk about the parts that appeal to them. Like the fact that going green saves everyone money, oil and gas receives $60 Billion in subsidies every year in the US, and Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger has been supporting clean energy for over a decade.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Doesn’t Give a Damn if You Don’t Believe in Climate Change

If you are new here, note that a certain very prominent one on this forum is not a conservative.

If @mojo would be inaccurate about man-made global warming, why would any other claim have any more merit?

I am as good as my name that is posted openly along with my home town, Huntsville AL.
