Thanks, Ed. I did the peel & stick in the spare tire well. And I tried the tires (Toyo) at the recommended inflation pressure, and then I bumped them all up to 41... really didn't make a difference in the tire noise. But it did shake the fillings loose in my teeth! And still noisy. But it's more than just tire noise, it's overall road noise and engine growl. No worries, I'm getting 52 to 64 mpg. :)

After nine months I'm used to all that noise and stuff. And like I said it breaks up the monotony and makes me feel like I'm driving a sports car. :ROFLMAO: I was Army infantry, not the Navy "silent service." :D

I don't think ed was being far fetched. Regarding checking oil levels, that's something you should always do in a vehicle anyways. (At least I always do).

I get my oil changed at the Toyota dealership - the same guys I bought the car from. It's a lifetime free oil change plan and I'd expect, being a Fortune 500 car retailer that they'd use Toyota brand oil.

Regardless I always make sure the kids don't forget to actually put oil back in.

Regarding the overall problem it seems I have fixed it by filling up at another gas station. (Chevron) instead of the cheaper Fred Meyers. The Prius purs like a kitten now :)

Thanks just trying to point out the dealer does a really bad job with the oil changes. A certified mechanic does not do it. So many horror stories of overfills there's a lady in a few posts back that got overfilled at a Jiffy and the engine died she took it to the dealer and they wanted to charge her hundreds of dollars. That and we are seeing hundreds of posts about high mileage g2's eating oil and if not checked and allowed to go really low especially if it goes so low it turns the yellow check engine light on (lack of oil pressure) usually damages the piston ring bearings and first indication is knocking and a misfire code. Final indication is piston rod #3 out the side of the block. So when you roll out of a dealer or Jiffy check the oil or bring them the exact amount in a bottle 3.6 quarts with a new filter so they can't f it up. I buy the 5 quart jug of M1 10-30 at Wallys for $22.95 and pour some out and leave that amount. or I use Redline 10-30. Engine sounds really different with Redline. Awesome oil. But pricey at $12 a quart. Redline is weird its 10-30 but when at operating temp it is a 10-40. My car's slight oil loss disappears when i run that stuff.

The bottom end is splashed lubricated. No splash no lubrication. Pays to keep it right at the full line on the stick.

    Good Luck.

From what I've experienced and heard in the past lower quality gasoline doesn't burn as easy. It can gunk up your fuel injectors and what not. I'm not a mechanic or gasoline expert but the same sorta thing happened to my Subaru and when I went to Chevron (or shell, 76, etc) instead of the grocery stores gas station it fixed the issue.

Guess I should just stay away from Freddy's even though it's the cheapest place in town :(

yeah well, idk, sounds like someone got paid off. :p j/k, but i'll stick with my cheap until there's a problem. 45 years of driving mean something to me. maybe you just got a bad tank full.

otph, some parts of the country seem to have engine problems much sooner than others, so maybe it's a regional thing.

    Yup!

AKKKKKK! Get that K&N out of there ASAP! They trap the LEAST dirt of any filter on the market and trapping dirt is the ONLY reason to have an air filter in the first place!

And I was just trying to point out that broad general assumption is likely NOT true.

There are thousands of dealers worldwide and I'm pretty sure that they are not ALL totally incompetent with oil changes. (or other things for that matter).

I personally know 3 dealers who have properly handled everything I've thrown at them, including oil changes.
