Is the Prius Prime so low to the ground that it hits parking stops? You know, the triangle thing that stops a car when parking. Drives me nuts when designers make the car so low that the bumper rubs everything.
My Gen 3 hits them, so I would expect the Prime to as well. I try not to park over them just in case they hit.
With our gen 3 it typically doesn't hit wheel stops, but will often scrape on curbs, have to be careful. The bear is: you can scrape over a curb, then the trailing edge of the underbody plastic hooks; when you back off it lifts and tears some bits. I've done a repair already had one point that was pretty chewed.
I'm sure it detects them just fine, and notifies the owner with a loud "bang" when you get too close to one.
It all depends on how high the parking block/stop is. I noticed that some are higher than others, and I've come very close to running into them. I try to remind myself to never park where there is a parking block, and/or I will back into the spot.
My son encountered one wheel stop: one of the rebar "nails" that secure it to the ground was protruding about 5 *^$!$ inches. Tore things up good.
keithjam, this bugs me as well. Why can't we standardize maximum curb height and minimum vehicle ground clearance such that the curb isn't hit?
Can sombody of you new Prime owners measure how much minimal and maximum space the front and rear bumper have left to the ground ? The 2016 Prius only has 12.2 cm minimal ground clearence according to the german specs, but it seems to me that the front and rear bumper do have a bit more . Apparently the Prime has the same ground clearence as the liftback.
Gen 4 Ground Clearance driveways - much better etc | PriusChat I posted some research links on the curb, driveway problem ect.
Prime clearance is 4.8 inches, less than previous models. I have rubbed one curb and been fine on others. Tire stops haven't been a problem.
Yes that's the minimall ground clearence, but I believe it has a higher clearence at the front and rear bumber as they are angled upwards a bit .
On my car, it's the lower front fascia(?) or the aerodynamic front panel underneath the car that scrapes when I'm going down a driveway. Or if I hit a parking block.
Just watched the 2016 Prius Prius-Chat Walkthrough Video . The front bumper of the 2016 has 6.1 inches ground clearence. If the Prime has the same or not extremely worse it should be okay !
I would sure like to know where that 6.1 inches is??? Mine scrapes just about every time I go down my own driveway, and it scrapes going up the driveway at the post office, and it's grapes going out of most shopping centers.... Maybe I'm just too fat.
